[PROJECT] Airbrushed 'Bioshock' TJ-07

Great case, love all the work you've put on here so far :)

Bought myself an Antec P182 today and was wondering how would I go about painting the inside of the case? I prefer the gun metal look of the P182SE but for £50 more I couldn't justify it. Was hoping I would be able to change mine from silver to gun metal for under that price, just not sure what I need to do it!
I can get it powder coated for £50 but was hoping to do it for less really and myself to tie in with my new w/c build that's going in it!

to be brutally honest mate, you are probably better off getting it powder coated...

Painting bare metal is quite hard thing to do, and although you can do it on the cheap using the correct materials from halfrauds, you can never really get the toughness of a powder coat or paint job using proper etch primers and catylised paints.

this is amplified for case innards too, as they recieve a lot of abuse. This bioshock one is painted rather than powder coated, but it is easier as it is just 4 or so flat metal panels.
The end user will still have to take care when installing the hardware as it will still be prone to scratching, just not as prone as a halfrauds style paint job...

in short... as a painter - I would recommend powder coat for pure cheapness and toughness.

Fair enough, thought it would be better getting it coated than just painting.
Might have a look around though as it was priced as £50 to do it and I was hoping to get it cheaper really but I'm not sure if I will!

Okay, we are nearing the end of this one now...

Just a few more little bits then its time for the final colour stage... then clear coat !
ill try any post some piccies tonight :)

p.s.... get ready for the best Hi Stelly EVER !
lol

Okay, last update until Wednesday ish, as I'm going on a short break :)

The front if the case looked a little something like this:

BORING !

Now it was quite a challenge to paint the front off this case, as its a weird shape and very 'bitty' so i have concentrated on 2 things; the hard drive cage and the power button area.

I needed inspiration, which i found - again right at the start, I knew i wanted to include the lighthouse in some way, so a started the game, swam around but just couldn't get the right angle to take a screenie, so i got back in the lift and looked for more inspiration. Then i found the rapture logo...

I made a mask, and stuck it to the cage front ( the front was already filled and prepped )

I also cut the words ' all good things of this earth flow into the city ' I thought it would be cool to link the start of the whole game - the light house and connect it to these words which you see as you enter rapture.

The lettering is painted in a prismatic paint, very light, so you cant actually see it unless the light hits it right.
Im looking at it now and i cannot see any text until i tilt and move it around - fab stuff - just a tad costly !

almost out of sight.

Going back to the into of the game ( again ) remember the slide show? when Ryan speaks, and introduces his idea... Well I thought they were very powerful words and thought it would be cool to have them on the case somewhere.
The idea was to use a similar prismatic paint as before but have it almost as if it wasn't there - VERY subtle. it will pop out only at the exact angle and even then it will be subtle.

( a little water to show how the clear coat will make it act)
Next, I fancied a challenge, so on with the bioshock logo!

That all for now... We are SO almost nearly done !!!

Incredible attention to detail, been following this for a while so I felt I had better comment :) Absolutely amazing, you ought to do video tutorials, starting with basic stuff, prepping cleaning etc. Fantastic workmanship.

Can't wait to see the finished project put together, do you draw these logos and illustrations by hand or do you use a Mac??

How did i manage to miss this thread, awesome job on the case, looks amazing *drool*, happy birthday also :)
