Project Beetle !

Impressive and good work. I must say I'm slightly worried about that filter. That will take an absolute battering from road spray won't it?

Good to see it nearly done! Not been in Motors much recently so nice surprise to see it :)

Sorry to hear you didn't make Bug Jam. I know how gutting that is because I rebuilt the motor in mine and it catastrophically killed itself on the way to Retro Rides Gathering. It's been sat in the garage wearing the hat of shame ever since.

Looking good but I reckon the exhaust lets it down, it's going to look proper scabby once that heatwrap discolours and picks up some road grime. Needs a proper radiused bend making up and putting on there really.

I've had it rigged upto the laptop, and nothing seems adrift (although obviously something is)
I'm confident the ecu isn't borked, and have checked that the crank pick up is working cos if that isn't working the ecu will just think nowt is happening so will do nothing, throttle position is working.
Battery was dropping down to 11 1/2 v when cranking, so charged the battery today, hoping a good charge may sort it.....
Well things did not go as planed / hoped
Basically still no go, I even got the battery out of tricky and jumped but nowt.
That'll be on charge tomorrow, and after work I'll give another go and if still no, maybe I'll just have the perm 12v ecu power to trickys' battery and try that(so no drop).
If still no go I'll whip a plug out again see if I'm getting a spark and either way after that I'll whack my head against the nearest wall a few times.
Fuel pump is cycling and getting pressure at regulator guage.

I'll see how it goes, if it starts to look shabby, I'll send it off to get copied, but I quite fancy it ATM :)

Thanks for everyones remarks :)

Make sure you come to VW Action instead then!

I'll take you for a spin round the off road track. :p

Is that intercooler going to be ok there?

it's a chargecooler, doesn't rely on air flow for cooling so it can go pretty much anywhere you like (for instance I've seen a bug with one located inside the car - see below), inside it there is a matrix with cold water runing through it, air travelling through that cools it, there is an external rad in this case a normal heater matrix and a res and pump to circutate cooled water.

Ahh i see  :D

Well yestaday I was over the moon, got the engine started, at the risk of serious ridicule it was the spark plugs !, they weren't bad honest just bad enough gave one a blow torch and wire brush and SPARK! another 3 plugs and a few jolts down my arm all good.
Arranged time off monday for rolling road sesh at northants motorsport monday, booked in for MOT this thursday borrowed trade plates for a wee run out, all was good, a good 15-20 mins driving - engine is freakin ferocious :D ......

But then meters from house OIL LEAK, quite a good one, I'm guessing/hoping the main oil seal has decided to pass over to the other side

There is a local club event this weekend, that I was going to keep quite about the car on the forum and just rock up in the beetle would have been cool, looks like it'll be in the MG then unless I decide to work on the beetle :(

permission to swear ??
