Project: Car PC

Well got the screen today, along with the VGA 5M extension cable and the 3M USB extension cable.

Will probably go to fit it sometime this week :)

What are you planning on doing about mounting it so you can take it out the car with you - at the moment that screen looks like it'd leave an awful lot of wires hanging if you disconnected it.

Its going in the middle heater vent, theres a lot of space there for the wires to go, just have to work out some removeable system, which should be fun :)

Looks great! I'm planning on a similar install at some point, have a 12v ATX power supply ready plus a USB interface to control a PC from the controls on a BMW monitor. I'll watch this with great interest!

I'll be starting my car pc when i get home from uni (6days :D).
As well as music, dvds + ecu integration that people have already mentioned, im planning on a gps system also (gps recievers can be had quite cheap now, but i havnt looked into what software to use yet).

If anybody who has already done a car-pc project wouldnt mind me asking them a few questions on msn regarding power supplies etc could add me (frzr23 at msn dot com) thanks :)

Also, as for the harddrive vibrations, i had planned to leave the screws sticking out the side of the hdd a little and hook elastic bands over them. then suspend it somewhere

How did I miss this thread!

Mark, that looks like a cracking effort and superb finish on the PC with the carpet.

Surprised you didn't go for a mini-ITX system but hey, whatever you have lying around I'm guessing!

Looking forward to seeing how you mount the screen :)

this was the problem I was trying to think around, I have a laptop i dont use which will be fine for what I want which im going to mount in the glove box but didnt know where to mount the moniter, the only thing i could think of was in the sun visor but that could be a tad distracting :p

Very nice, got all my parts apart from the screen, hopfully pic one up at the end of the month, then I'm ready to install, not looking forward to the cable routing.

Nice work :)

what front end are you using?

Wow nice project :) . Did you ever get the carbon fiber PC school project finished?, or have i got the wrong guy?.

Thanks. Yes im the same guy! Funnily enough that is the same components that I used in the tech project. The case is doing nothing now just sat in the cupboard :(

Only pics I seem to have, I know I have some of it completely finished somewhere!
