If you are quite ring fenced and feel you can't install outside of NOOBS then I'd say to buy one of the Maplins off the shelf kits.

Scrumping for apples is a classic kid thing to do, almost a rite of passage... and if all they're doing is that, rather than getting doped up, nicking cars, smoking fags, or generally being complete ***** like most of the kids round here, then I think you're doing them, their parents and the community a massive favour by keeping them on a sensible path.

If you're set on destroying their childhood, then I'd think just the cheapy project box for Pi would be fine. It'd teach you a lot about the workings behind it at the same time.

You don't think they'd start on scrumping apples and then move on to scrumping cars if they're just allowed to get away with it?

I used to go scrumping for conkers and blackberries until I got caught once too often... lesson learned.

Well I never did... haven't stolen so much as a stereo, let alone a whole car. None of my friends did, either.
Then again, we read the Daily Mail from the age of about nine so that was something only the lower class children would do... besides, these are only 3-7, so there's plenty of time for them to learn some manners!

When I scrumping as a kid I remember this old dude used to shoot at us with a pellet gun, back then you never told your folks otherwise you'd still get a hiding anyway!! Imagine doing that now !

lol! Yup so true. Used to love getting the apples and plums from up my road
