Project: Cool Dragon

might be a little it late to tell you this but you could have used black + blue braid that is combined.

The same shop I bought it from carries black and blue, but I use blue and white like this

btw :) good luck with your project and hopefully you gone get your 5850 back soon

The reason I chose the braid I did was because it was super cheap and I managed to strike a deal and get 5M of braid free. Otherwise, I would have gone for more expensive higher quality stuff (which I will probably do in the future) but for now the stuff I have will do the job just fine. Cheers for the pic though :D

Just to let everyone know I spoke to the shop I bought my 5850 from and they are expecting a sapphire shipment on wednesday next week. I will definitely have news by friday evening though because the 'reasonable time' I have to wait for a replacement to arrive (28 days) will be over and the shop will be forced to either offer me a new GPU from stock or cash/credit to buy another.

UPDATE:

Just to let you guys know I have some movement on the 5850. Basically, the sapphire card is long gone and I have had talks with the shop but the problem is as the reference 5850s are no longer in production they couldn't (initially) offer me a reference PCB 5850 and the cash refund option was a lot less than I was hoping (even less than the value of the card they were offering me!!!) but the guy on the phone refused to give me the value of the card they would give me but in cash. Therefore, I asked to speak to his manager and he transfered me. I explained the situation to his manager and he basically offered me the cash value of the non-reference style 5850 they were offering me. However, I made a last and final plee to see if they had any reference style PCB 5850s lying around and he happened to have an ASUS 5850 (reference style PCB). However, the ASUS one is not new and although he didn't tell me I assume it is a repaired replacement/returned card therefore they are going to test it tomorrow. However, they said if it passed the tests they would send it out to me with saturday delivery and it would either arrive saturday or monday. However, if it doesn't pass their tests they still offered me the cash value of a new 5850 (the non reference PCB one they offered me) so hopefully I will start building either this weekend or early next week (depending on work load) :D

Damn I am happy to get some news!

More Suckish News :(

So the GPU arrived!!!! YAY I thought.

Opened it up and all was good.

Gave it a quick test and it posted so all was good.

IMG_2817.jpg

I then fitted the block and had another quick test....STILL WORKS :D

But then I filled the loop and noticed a slight leak in the same place as I did last time I filled, but last time I though it was the fitting. Turns out it wasn't. I got the res second hand from a friend and it turns out there is a little chip where the barb screws in so there wasn't a complete seal. I stupidly though double o-ringing it would be a good idea and to be fair it did work but the worst news is yet to come......

So I had the loop fully filled and bleeding. Suddenly I noticed a fair amount of water on the table underneath the case! Turns out my pump was leaking but the top wasn't the problem. There was a perfect seal with the O-ring and there was no water outside the o ring but water was somehow making its way down through the PCB and out the bottom!!! Luckily EC6 is non-conductive but I have opened an RMA form with the shop I bought from but they are based abroad so I may be waiting a long time again :(. However, I have requested a refund so hopefully they will give me one. If they do, I will just buy the same pump from a UK store. Also I ordered a new res (same as before but with the fascias :D)

Oh....and just to finish off with while draining I accidentally snapped a cathode :(

This is turning out far more expensive and is taking far longer than initially anticipated but I am going to stick at it. I am determined lol (even if I am gutted right now)

UPDATE:

As mentioned before I was having problems with the pump, but what I noticed was that I had no problems with the phobya top. Therefore I decided to remove the new pump top and refit it to see if it still leaked.

It did still leak but on closer inspection of some of the photos I might have found out why.

If you look closely at the front left screw in this picture, it looks like the plexi cracked and the crack goes all the way to the 1/4" hole. Therefore that would have caused it to leak.

I removed the top and have replaced my phobya top. I was going to test that this weekend but you need at least 1 block installed with the pump according to the manual and I accidentally broke one of the spacer orings so I have to wait for the replacement oring I ordered to arrive before I can test the pump.

On the upside though, for the small amount of time I did test the pump with the phobya top I had no leaks so I think it will be fine, but for peace of mind I want to test it for at least 20 mins outside the case.

Now, I have to say a massive thank you to morkfromork for providing me with 3 black sata cables for FREE! He even payed for postage! Top lad.

Also, I ordered some replacement cathodes as I broke one when draining (:(). They were only £2.99 but they do the job ;)

Also, my new res arrived (as the old second hand one had a small crack in it causing it to leak). The new one looks so much sleeker with the fascia though :D.

I should have another update in the first half of next week and hopefully be finished before next weekend (depending if my pump passes my testing).

EDIT: Due to heavy work loads at school I may do pump testing and there is a very slight chance I might finish tomorrow (thursday) but it is more likely I will wait until Saturday when I will have more time.

YAYAYAYAY!!!

Just to let everyone know.....I HAVE FINISHED!!!!! The nightmare is over and now I have a sick watercooled rig YAYAYAYA!!!!

I will do all the official stuff like temps and pics etc on Saturday as I have lots of work to do now (hehe).

Happy days.

use different uv :) not blue...it hides the red :(
Hehe well I am planning on getting a new case and rad soon so I think I might just go with coloured tubing and distilled water when I switch as it is a lot cleaner and cheaper.

Bad news on the overclocking front though.

Temps are still my limiting factor. I know I can get a 3.9ghz overclock but my CPU gets a little too hot with that so I am looking into getting a 360 rad and putting it in an 800D (or getting a 480 and a TJ07 if one becomes available 2nd hand).

Just though I would give everyone a little update ;)

Well, the I think I over rated the performance I would get from the 280 radiator. It gave me good temps for my GPU but my CPU actually ran hotter than it did when it was on my thermalright venomous-x. Therefore, I have been unable to overclock past the 3.6ghz (I know my chip can go up to 3.9ghz but the temps go too high). I was pretty gutted by this but it still worked so I though I would stick with it. Summer has come and I have a bit of money so I have splashed out and bought the following:

Corsair 800D (thanks to BringTheRain in the MM)

1x Black 1/2" compression fitting

3m White XPSC 1/2" tubing

2x black bitfenix 6 pin PCIe extensions

XSPC RX360 radiator

3x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm

1x Silver Kill Coil

EK Multioption 250 Reservoir V2 Advanced

XSPC acetal pump top V3

LED Cap (basically a 1/4" plug but with space for an LED so I can use it in the res)

9x 45 Degree black 1/2" compression fittings

1x EK Anti-cyclon

PSU bridge Fpug (for jumpstarting the PSU as I find the paper clip really annoying :P)

8mm Tubing (for draining my current system)

CPU Backplate (my EK block never came with one so I have made do with my custom one. This was cheap so I though I might as well throw it in to my order :D)

90 degree 1/2" compression fitting.

Look out for a new project log sometime in the next few weeks :D

Nice video.

How much bigger is the Corsair 800D? Will you be able to use both the 360 and the 240 rads in your new build?
Well the K62 measures 214mm x 496mm x 498 mm (W, H, D) and the 800D 229 mm X 609mm X 609mm so it is quite a bit bigger :).

I was thinking of modding the bottom for my 280 rad but have decided against it because:
1) I don't really need the extra cooling power
2) I have no experience in modding and if I made a mistake I wouldn't be able to replace it (I don't have an income as I am too young).
3) I could do with a little bit of money back after my spending spree (i.e. sell it).

Cheers

good stuff :)..

will you be doing another build log or keeping it on here?..

I've got a new edition to my build today, i've just got the gtx 580, so i've got to strip down my water loop now and put this in.
I saw you MM purchase lol :)

I think I will start a new thread as it doesn't really fit in with the title and I have so much new gear I think its worth it :D
