Project Reality 0.5 - BF2 mod

I have a massive problem with this, it seems that whenever I see someone and point my gun at them the name doesnt come up blue/red until after I've killed them :/ So the next time I wait longer, hoping it shows - and they kill me because they were red... I got about 4 teamkills around a flag point we were taking just because no names came up, and I died about 10 times after that because I was waiting for the blue name!
Dammit that's irritating.
And watching the map didn't help - so much going on that you can't pick out who you're looking at as a blue...

That's jsut because vanilla BF2 made it stupidly easy for people to tell friend from foe. You don't get enemy tags in PR and you only get friendly up to 50m. You will get used to using your eyes to actually recognise who is who (like in real life ;) ) as opposed to a huge coloured name tag being above everyone's head.

It's not that hard to get used to recognising. :)

played this to death in the 0.3 beta stage, then for one reason or another stopped gaming for a while. Grabbing this though and looking forward to seeing what's changed :D Thanks for the thread.

I had another game last night and was doing very well, top of the scoreboard for 90% of the game, then dropped places when the server went from 15 players to 30ish and a few guys doubled my score in approx 5mins :S

I racked up a good hundred points or so in a tank defending a flag, only because I could see there was nobody ofmy team anywhere near the area, so I was able to shoot anything that moved. As soon as there are teammates nearby i'm screwed, as no matter how close they are I dont get a blue con, and they look exactly the same as the other team.

he name tags is difficult to get used to especially when one is in close proximity Tinside your base but Im using my radar more and when working in a team the enemys on a front are more obvious

I got the kit for driving trucks but it still woulnt allow me to drive one

one thing to rememeber is in the name " Project Reality"

In a battlefield - you don't get red and blue tags appearing above friend/foe's heads so it is trying to get more realistic by lowering the tag distance to approx 50m or so.

It just stops peolpe from shooting from miles away because the tag appeared above there head. ALso if sticking to you squad etc, you should all work well in spotting the enemys etc.

It you get a crewmans kit you should be able to drive the tanks/apc etc. However you must make sure that the gunner etc has also got a crewman kit or they won't be able to operate the gun for you.

You need to be at a certain position around the vehicle to get in, tanks for example require you to jump on top so as to climb in the hatch. The APC's appear to be entered from the door at the back.

You gotta study the wiki guide for a while. I spent about 30 minutes reading through it before but as soon as I asked someone on a server what a waypoint does I was told to "read the manual noob!" :(

Still plenty more to learn in the game but I liked it enough to try again, plus I got a good score in my first game :)

you mean Rally point? - it's basically a point where the squad leader can lay down a spawn point other than spawning at your main base.

It can be used for anyone is the squad but can also be used to re-arm etc and request kits etc.

Bear in mind it can also be destroyed by the enemies.

Don't try and re-spawn at another squads rally point though, it's a long walk from the main base otherwise! (You'll spawn there instead).

I had the crewmans kit and got inside the truck but it wouldnt move...

Ive got into APC's etc and driven Tanks.

Also whats with the gas effect from Special forces, how do you get a mask :p

Yeah im usually near the top in scoring due to my ability at BF2 but the level of skill isnt always a factor due to nearly always being outnumbered against a squad of IGI commando's :D

When you request the kit you are picking it up? :D Never had a problem like that before. What gas effect? Do you mean when you are bleeding? Only way is to get to a medic quick, again really helps to be in a decent squad. Of late I've been having to play as a medic a lot to keep the squad rolling along, which sucks as I don't get on with the medic class

Yep you've got to press 'G' to pick up the allocated kit (took a couple of tries for me to figure it out...)

Tried the 0.5 release for the first time last night and had a blast!

The Devs have got a wiki with a lot of handy info:
http://guide.realitymod.com/index.php?title=User_Guide

and there are also a couple of useful vids here too:
http://realitymod.com/forum/showpost.php?p=260351&postcount=1

But I'd say that the most important advice regarding this mod would be to squad up and use a mic

My connection finally got upgraded so I downloaded this last night. This is a cracking mod. Certainly rekindled my love for BF2 :D

iGi server is a nice place to play. I think I will make it my regular when I do fire up PR.

Hey sniffy, was I just playing with you in iGi server?
My nickname is ODS A Batty Bender. (don't ask why)

I've been playing the mod a bit last couple of days and really liking it, a lot!
Real, gritty feel to it. Gun sounds are more real, gun recoil more real etc
So much I could say but best off saying that I will be coming back for much more. Just need to get my clan interested now :p

Yeah you was mate, I was in your squad. That insurgent map is quality!

I can't get enough of this stuff :D

Thought it was you. That was Basrah I believe, some proper street warfare going on. When playing it it made me think of footage I saw of the US offensive of Fallujah a couple of years back

It makes me think of real footage too. Like you said, that gritty feel to the game gives it that realistic edge. The fire-fights sounds truely awesome with the realistic sounds. Music to my ears :D. I'm really loving this mod basically.

Hope to play with you again soon :)

Glad you enjoy our server - possibility of us now going with 2 servers as it does seem to have picked up a ton of new players since the release of 0.5. Watch this space!!

Server was full all weekend from 8am on saturday till 11pm on sunday night!

A second iGi server would be excellent! Your current one is constantly full.

Do you have VOIP on your current server? I heard a few people complaining they couldn't use it yesterday but I thought I've heard people using it before.

I definitely enjoy your server. Well admined and 48 is just the right size. Played a couple of 32 player servers which feel too slow, especially on the large maps.

Chances are i'll be on there as soon as i'm back from work this evening :p
