My favorite mod of all time, Project Reality, has finally reached its complete state.

Project Reality is a mod for BF2, so if you have an old BF2 account I highly recommend giving this game a go.

If you have never played BF2 you can purchase it for as little as a fiver, and with the game being so old (8 years) you don't need an expensive beefy machine to play it smoothly. A modern family PC will manage this game, but if you do have a beast of a gaming rig & think the game is not worthy, the game makes up for what it lacks in eye candy with its excellent gameplay.

To play it it is essential you have a headset/mic as the game is teamwork orientated, and communication is a must.

Here is the new trailer promoting the new release....

The new release has also upped the max players from 64 to 100, which should make for some exciting times.

Servers to try

Yeah you need a good bit of time to take in the complex controls of all the vehicles, or you could just learn the soldiery role.

Are you jumping back in to try it, Kev? Hook up if so.

On the new promo video for this release, I can't help but think how poor it is (the trailer, not the game), there's hundreds of PR videos on Youtube that show just how good the teamwork gameplay is.

If you've any doubts about getting into an old game, just have a butchers at some of the PR youtube videos.

I am well into me simulations arma 2 and 3 etc so will i like this mod?.

All so if I get BF2 now and install PR1 will i be able to play it now?.

thanks

You will not be able to play version 1.0 until Friday. However, if you have the patience to download the current PR version, which is 0.98, you will be able to play that until there are no servers left running that version.

It's only Tuesday, so I guess it's worth it if you've got a good internet download speed.

All the details and files can be found on the PR site linked in the OP.

Never played A2, & I've not bothered much with A3 despite owning it, so I can't say if the Armas are better or not. For sure the Armas will be much better graphics.

PR did release a mod for A2 but it died, but I can tell you they're working on a PR for A3.

So there's not really much I can benchmark this game against, but I'd be surprised if there's anything out there that has its type of gameplay. Mumble alone sands this game above others.

By the game's very nature it loses a lot of players that try it out expecting gratuitous slaying of the enemy, when in fact you can play a vital role and not see a single enemy.
So by my reckoning we will see a very big influx of new players and servers, followed by an equally rapid decline as the COD kiddies get bored of being slaughtered time and time again.

It's not all serious stuff, there's lot's of LOLs to be had too, but if you play it in the right manner you'll enjoy it, as long as you enter it knowing it's a sim x FPS.

Oh and don't get upset if you get told to pea-off out of a squad that you've just joined. Many squad are dedicated to assets such as Tank Squad, or Heli Trans Squad. If you do join one of those squads without knowing how to fly or operate a tank, you'll more certainly be asked to leave the squad.

By the way, if you were an ace pilot in BF2, it doesn't mean you'll be able to fly immediately, because the DEVS made big changes to the controls. You'll need to practice....a lot! (well I did and I'm still rubbish at flying in PR)

Reinstalled BF2 ready for tomorrow, had a quick blast but got kicked by an error prompting me to update Punkbuster via evenbalance.com. Very simple to do.

ToeJam, I'll attempt to put your server on the op when I get home on my desktop pc.

Except1, do you fly in PR?

For anyone that's never owned BF2, you can purchase it online for a fiver, and for that you get the complete collection but you only need to install vBF2 if you're just going to play PR.

£30 there mate, guess its steam unless I can somehow recover my account.

So it is. My nephew, Ciegeman off here, got it for a fiver from Sainsburys online, and I saw it at that price on there myself

Regards retrieving your account, as long as you still have access to your email address that you registered it under, you will be able to request a password reminder.

Try Game online and other game retailers.

It seems there's a buzz about this imminent release among gaming communities.

One of the regulars is even offering training.... CLICKY

There should be a manual with the download which will take some digesting, such is the intricacy of this game.

I'll try and seed when I'm not playing, TJ.

Now I notice it has a French flag which could and probably will put off those from English speaking countries, especially the Yanks.

I'd recommend just having CPC and replacing 'child's play corner' with something along the lines of....'English Only'.

Oh No! What's up with my files? I've sat down to install the game and the huge file I pre-downloaded is a disc-image-file. Do you have to burn it to disc before you can play? Help please.

Oh God I hope they ain't ruined it. I'll be giving a blast tonight see for myself.

When I first joined I used to curse it but strangely kept going back for more. The more I played the more I enjoyed it.

Well, after an awful first hour or so back on this game, I eventually played a round with a decent squad on a decent map.

I got that feel of uncertainty and anguish as you hear shots close and see soldiers even closer, not knowing if they're enemy or not. You're not meant to go gun-ho in this game, you're meant to be certain of your target.

But the first hour was unorganised, chaotic and massively one sided on the team front. I guess it will take a few days before the game settles in to how it is meant to be played. Many players will claim it rubbish as they experience what I last mentioned, but if they hang on and give it a go, even as a beginner, they'll eventually experience what I first mentioned. Basically, you have to play the part, but you need others to do so too. If you're the only one playing the part, the others will think you're one of these reenactment types, lol.

Well done ToeJam and CPC for getting 100 players in their new server.

Personally I think if they stick to Insurgency and standard AAS maps they'll get more traffic as the vehicle warfare maps are really only playable by experienced players.

Insurgency and standard AAS maps still have vehicles, they're just not a spam fest of explosions.

Well done and keep it up.

Do the cars still play Islamic music on the car stereo? Very frightening when you hear that tune approach, knowing an alighty explosion will follow.

It's very close to the bone the suicide bomb cars.

I tend to only join a squad if the squad leader has a squad leader kit. If they don't it's usually a sure sign of original squad creator left and no one else wants or knows how to do it.

What's annoying about this release is the absence of tags after the first 64 players. I think I'd rather play a 64 limit server with all tags present, than the chaotic mess you can get on 100 player servers when the uniforms clash.
