The pump can be controlled via the CPU fan header, and is require to be plugged in. If there is no PWM signal, the pump will run very slow.
But I personally run it at a constant speed (about 60%), rather than varying with CPU temperature. It possibly prolongs the life of the pump and will just be annoying ramping up every time you open Google Chrome for example.
A D5 at 100% is quite loud IMO.
