Ok so decided having a 500 quid banger for work is no fun so gonna buy a nice diesel for every day (focus/leon etc... expect a thread soon) and keep the saxo for my weekend/track toy. But for this it's gonna need a few mods, the aim is to make it a little more track focused whilst still being usable on the road.

Got a little bit of time on my hands this week so will keep this thread updated.

So heres how it is now:

I got all 4 wheels refurbed and 4 of fox's favourite tyres. (won't be putting loads of miles on so doesn't matter if they are made from cheese!)

Any suggestions for things I should do to it, let me know!

First on the list of mods is changing the standard brakes and is this tomorrows task.

These should stop the 900ish kg car well enough!

I'm also starting to gather the parts for the power mods:

Magnex stainless cat-back and decat. Tailpipe is a little bigger than I wanted but need the larger bore system and there isn't really any other ones out there for a reasonable price with a more subtle tailpipe.

Also, new cambelt. Wonder what this could be in preperation for ;)

Need to source a 4-2-1 manifold now and then it will all start coming together.

Nice looking VTS

You want:

- A decat Peugeot Sport exhaust (£200 new, less 2nd hand). Doesn't fit the hole in the rear bumper properly, but sounds the dogs, and releases a good 10bhp, when combined with...

- A raceland 4-2-1 manifold. £120ish brand new.

- K&N/Green replacement panel filter.

- Bilstein Sport dampers all round, and H&R lowering springs for the front.

- Totally stripped out interior. Add 2nd hand bucket seats and harnesses if you're feeling flush with the cash.

They do sound nice but as you say don't fit the saxo bumper cutout, the magnex I have will give similar results and should look ok and give a very sublte tone. Want it to kinda be a sleeper.

- A raceland 4-2-1 manifold. £120ish brand new. They are cheaply finished, I am keeping an eye out for a supersprint or miltek as these fit better although admittedly are more costly.

- K&N/Green replacement panel filter. Done :)

- Bilstein Sport dampers all round, and H&R lowering springs for the front. That setup is good on a budget and what my last saxo had but for this one I am going for the Bilstein grp n dampers and custom rate faulkner springs to keep a standardish ride height. Also lower brace and thicker rear ARB.

- Totally stripped out interior. Add 2nd hand bucket seats and harnesses if you're feeling flush with the cash. Not sure on what I'm doing with the interior yet but reclining buckets and retrimming doorcards to match is looking favourite! Don't think the gf will be keen on stripped out + solid back buckets!

Up the saxo, looks pretty decent for a £500

LOL I wish, I was referring to my £500 diesel banger 106. For the money I paid I could have had a lot newer saxo but I wanted to go back to the mk1 shape and this immaculate very low mileage 1 owner one came up so I had to get it.

There was a longish thread on the PGAC a while ago about different manifolds.

Essentially, it turned out that the cheaper raceland ones were exactly the same as the supersprint ones, but half the price.

Lots of people bought the supersprint ones, thinking that paying more meant getting a better quality manifold, but on comparing them with buddies racelands, found them to be identical.

If I'd kept my 106, I was planning on sticking a raceland on it.

The magnex looks good, I think that's usually the 2nd choice over the pugsport exhaust, and still gets the power gains. If not the harsh, tinny rally sound that is so awesome!

Because he wants the Saxo to be useable on the road but still throw it around a track as & when he wants to

My train of thought was, if hes going to get a diesel runaround for everyday, why does the saxo need to be useable on the road? for the money your going to spend doing it up, it could be spent on a serious track machine, but each to their own :) good luck with it.

Its just a couple of friends have had problems with the fitment of the raceland manifolds, they give the power gains but poor finishing on where it bolts to the engine and cat have given problems. Good to know about the supersprint being identical. My friend has changed his raceland due to never getting it to stop blowing for a btb which fits much better but is mild steel :/

Agree that pugsports sound awesome but bit noisy for the road i reckon.

What condition is the original back box in because if you're selling it I may be interested.

I am keeping all original parts to put back on when I sell it. However got a couple of saxo backboxes lying around, msn me...

I'm only 19, insurance is reasonable on this and I still have a thing for the way they drive. RWD and my driving would be sudden death I'm afraid to say! Plus all the parts I am getting second hand or in group buys so not spending an awful lot on it. Total cost should be around £4k for 160bhp, 900kg, sorted suspension and brakes. I'll be more than happy with it for now :) And when I sell it all parts should be sold for a similar price and the car being cheap in the first place with very low mileage should mean I loose no money on it also

Don't suppose you have a spare mid box lying around too? Apparently this is what is causing a random rattling noise at 3.5k rpm

I have an entire 51 plate vtr breaking for spares, but MSN! :)

That looks very smart! I like it a lot. Brakes look like they could be good fun too ;)

What happened to the yellow VTR you had? I liked the banananess :(

Sold it looking like this:

main.php

I put 20k miles on it, took the stereo out and had a hole in the passenger door from when someone broke in and still sold it for the same price I paid for it so its all good!

Bloke was planning to paint all black bits yellow, tint windows black, fit chromes etc :(

Looks very smart with the black wheels

You gonna make an appearance at MM5 in the VTS? ;) When are you hoping to have it completed by?

Haha I'll say I will but who knows! Well about April time to have all the power mods, suspension and brakes sorted. But then might get a quaiffe atb diff, reclining buckets etc etc so ongoing really.
