Throttle bodies are an option yeah but hardly any power increase for about £1500 outlay is hard to justify.
 
According to those who fit them, it's not the peak power that counts. There's a hefty increase right across the rev range, e.g. up from 80 to 110bhp at 4000rpm or whatever. Makes the car a lot "real-world" faster.

But expensive, as you say...swings and roundabouts.
 
Looks like a nice project :) Going to get it on the rollers before and after the mods?

I've got a ford racing manifold 4-2-1, exhaust, sports cat & backbox coming onto my puma in the next week or two.

They're bike TBs.

More £300 installed than £1,500.

Plus £200(? £300?) for Megasquirt-n-spark.

OR

Use bike carbs (£150-200 fitted).

Bike carbs can take up to 1 bar of pressure.

But run an Eaton M45 at 6-7psi and you'd be laughing.

For A few more hp a cylinder head and cams is a good way without doing a full engine rebuild. Futhering that a lighter flywheel for the track is a brilliant way to make a standard saxo engine more rev happy and responsive. Get it mapped for annother couple of hp and no flat spots:) . A set of dampers+springs will make it handle. I recon ebaying and carefully sourced parts you could be looking at a fair wadge less than a grand if you can fit it yourself.
 
penski don't think the megasquirt can control all the sensors on the saxo engine so need omex or cheapest is kms engine management which is about £500 + wideband lambda, adapter loom, custom inlet manifold etc so while the bike tb's may be cheap the overall setup won't be. Also don't want supercharger.

Anyway, update!:

Original front brake pads with manufacture date, proves the genuine mileage I think!

Just fit behind the wheels, few mm of clearance!

Couldn't get them fitted though due to being given incorrect advice that saxo goodridge hoses would fit, as you can see here the bit where it screws into the caliper is different. GAYBAR!

The end is more tapered because if you look in the caliper the holes where the fluid goes to the pistons are on the side rather than the end. Balls.
 
You can't just replace the CV joint, have to do the driveshaft! Cheap enough though.

No progress on the car, still waiting on new hoses and the bloke who was supposed to be selling me cams has decided to keep them :mad:

Yep those are the droplinks I told you the problem would be ;)

However they are supposed to look like that, you can't really tell if theres anything wrong with them by looking a them, levering a breaker bar inbetween the ARB and the wishbone and seeing if they jump around usually tells if they are knackered.

Well the CV's look in decent condition so I highly doubt it is those and I can't really see a problem with the driveshaft, think my mate was over reacting.

Is it worth replacing the drop links?

Oh btw, took her down some well known rural roads today, and i'm still smiling. The Saxo may have some flaws, but when it comes down to cornering it's in a class of it's own :cool:

Yes I found my handled better after getting them fixed.

Yeah they wear out pretty quickly and when one wears out it wears the other one out so always replace in pairs too.
 
I see on Saxosports club a few lads have put 106 rallye droplinks on their saxo's.

Will it make a noticeable difference but rallye ones on?

The cars nearly five years old btw.

Got a link? I'm 99% sure the droplinks from an s2 rallye and any saxo furio/vtr/vts are the same.

If they are the original droplinks at 5 years old and average miles then I would say they probably need replacing yeah.
