Is there any websites I can read up on this? definately interested was put off because of people on the saxo forums all running very expensive stuff to run TBs.
yeah megasquirt has some huge helpful forums.
http://www.msefi.com/ (official megasquirt forum)
http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mtabcon.htm (official megasquirt manual)
http://www.msextra.com/ (forum for the "extra code" this contains traction control boost control etc etc)
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/ (web page for what ms+extra contains)
http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Extra_Manual_Index.htm (ms+extra manual)
the problem with ms is that there are only 2 recognized distributers both worked off there feet thus meaning that the uk scene does not really know much about it and such thing as what you just said get spread around by other tuners not knowing the system and trying to sell you there ecu. I am currently working with bowling and grippo to become a uk distributer also trying to seal a deal with innovate motorsports to supply wideband lambdas.
Also with ms if you can write c+ then you can write your own code for the ecu to suit whatever application you need, guys have come up with the ability to run it on the siamiesed port minis which before only rover mems could handle. lots of rx7s have been run on it now aswell due to new rotary code being written.
However the tu engine is a very simple 4 banger using bosch sensors all you need to do is calibrate for the bosch sensors and thats it. i have no idea where or who was telling you it wont work!
In all honesty MS1+extra is as advanced if not more then the new emerald K3 ecu with more features and more customization.
the downfall to megasquirt in the uk is there are not many people willing to tune it as, as with what i said above, not many tuners know the ecu, however if you have a bit of savvy buy a wideband o2 its pretty easy to get it running well yourself. Again i am looking into offering a service for RR tuning these (i have a friend with a rr although i would be looking at obtaining my own in the future) and possibly drive in drive out installs.
for your setup you would just run a toothed wheel decoder for ignition using the wheel 60-2 wheel that is already on the flywheel and read by the CAS sensor. Running wasted spark with alpha-n to give optimum throttle response on bodies and the ability to run silly wild cams if you wanted and upping the comp ratio to suit the cams (11:1 ??) with tbs and that setup i would expect that to see you the right side of 160bhp with the itbs providing reasonably tractability throughout the rev range and sounding damn sexy too \o/
if you was happy to get spannering most of it yourself i would expect it could be done for around £1/1.5k depending on the price of the cams from catcams (around £320 for the pair inc vat catcams part numbers 1321714 or 1321715) and what bike bodies/manifold you use
