Project: World of Warships

Why would you need permission from wargaming?

I wanted their blessing to use images etc from their website, it wasn't so much getting their permission. I just thought it would be the courteous thing to do in case I was after artwork etc direct from them.

Anyway I got the camera out this morning and the EVOVL out of the box finally. Here are some shots and also giving you guys chance to comment on my anchor plan.

Thank goodness its got rubber feet otherwise wife wouldn't be too happy with me putting it on her oak worktop :)

This is the plan for my aluminium slab, I'd like to backlight it with some form of rotation to the light to produce a water reflection effect, not quite sure how to achieve that yet. Any comments as to the scale? I think it just about right I wanted the anchor big !

As for the camouflage ideas there is one image here of an Atlanta Cruiser that I love the most, maybe just less blue and more grey shades.

Spent the day making the anchor logo. At first I did a very rough wooden template, just to get an idea for how it might look.

Proper to scale print out from Sketchup

Mounted for checking size

Then back top the garage to do some serious hacksaw cutting and lots of filing.

How it started as one 10mm thick block

Where I'm at tonight, after a lot of filing ! Quite how I'm gonna manage the chamfering with just a file I don't know. I see a few blisters in my future.

Can't wait to see how the anchor turns out, enjoy the filing! Also, nice kitchen! ;)

Haha thanks for the kitchen comment, been renovating this place since last year, pretty much the reason I am so behind with my modding !
Yeah the damn aluminum keeps blocking my files up so its a slog and I don't have a proper file brush, just using a wire brush.

Holy **** Colin, you had a busy day yesterday! Case looks great, especially like the port/starboard lighting concept along the top of the case.

That anchor though, that is a serious piece of work!

You wouldn't believe the hours to get to that point, I had to go buy a proper bench vice and my Stanley hobby one just couldn't grip the anchor properly. I also had to buy a Engineers triangle + half-round + 2nd cut files, I really could have done with a smallish square file but I got by. I'm off to source some led strips for the top after I finish typing this. I was trying to get Avexir to supply me with red+green ddr4 for the port/stbd look inside but I think it'll be too much. I think blue would be better.

My other dilemma atm is the camo, I have two samples but tbh they look crap on the outside of the case. The case is just too nice in gunmetal to spoil it with vinyl....hmm

If I have time today I might try getting the parts I have running to make sure they are all working. Thanks for following :D

UPDATE: LED Strips ordered from Icemodz as need custom length of 40cm. I removed the top panel and discovered the mesh for the vents is actually glued in place, I did think to remove it for painting red+green but I'll see how it looks once the leds arrive.

Testing the hardware, all working as far as I can see. Just using these 970's for testing btw ;)

Yeah, just a couple of £300 gpu's that were laying around lol ;)

glad to hear all components are up and running and look forward to more updates. Agree with you on the ram colour too btw. Thanks for the updates & good luck!

Sounds bad when I say it like that (frivolous even), considering i have 2 780ti's sat in Midas also. Well my spending days are gonna be over for a while. This will be my last one for a long time I think because I'll probably be out of a job in the new year. I usually donate my old stuff to family and friends, but for some reason I've been hanging onto it all lately. Maybe MM will get a look in.

So started the chamfering of the anchor...OMG I must be mad ! I ended up going an buying some cutting bits for my Dremel as I've seriously worn out my arms !! But even with the Dremel helping to remove material its all painfully slow. Here is progress from today...

Needs a lot of touching up once I've got the rough shape sorted ;)

Good work Colin!

I guess no front reservoir then :D

Ah Tim I got some pics to upload, but there isn't much room (well that's the way I feel) I've been totally spoiled by the Primo. I can't even picture mounting a res that we discussed. However I could do something else instead...I'll pm you. Let me go upload some pics of the test build I've done just to see how it all "works".

UPDATE

Ok some pics of my test build, wanted to get a feel for it.

subbed, looks like its going to be awesome.

Thanks for looking I really like your build, if I'd gone Skylake that Hero board would be great.

Just to let you know guys unfortunately I'm back abroad again :( So no updates for a wee while. More bad news is my company just had another contract terminated early so things aren't looking good at all.

With this in mind and with heavy heart I've decided I can't spend any more money on this project for the foreseeable future, this basically means there will be no water cooling added for now.

I've just informed Tim over at Diamond Cooling and he's such a great guy and understands the situation, thanks mate you've been a great advisor to me and taking time to answer all my questions etc.

I will continue doing what I can and also take time to finish Midas.

I'm so sorry about this guys but its the way it has to be for now, I'll gladly update you all as time goes on it just won't be quite what I envisaged for now. Maybe if my employment situation is more certain then Plan A will be back on the cards.

how do you find the performance of Team Vulcan memory kit? Have you tried overclocking CPU with it using XMP profile @ 3000mhz? Interested to know how it performs.

I haven't tried an OC yet I'm afraid, I just put it in enabled xmp and had cpu on turbo of 3.7Ghz. But if you can wait a few weeks I'll do some when I get back to UK.

Awesome work on the anchor! it would look amazing if you could some way have a front mounted res and have that stuck on it?

not sure how that would work or if it was even possible?

You must read minds, that was what Tim at Diamond Cooling and I discussed. He has a bigger imagination than me, but it would have maybe given me the watery reflection affect I wanted to project onto the front face.

It might still happen just not as soon as I'd like it to have been, hopefully I can secure my job and then have the funds to add the water cooling.

wow this is going to look fantastic!
sorry i only just got round to looking over this log,
you've been very active on my logs & I feel bad that this is the 1st time iv seen this :(

That anchor looks great BTW,

sent you a PM about the watercooling.

Thanks for coming to look and I really appreciate your email so many nice people here willing to help others. Great bunch.

I have confirmed something very special with Diamond Cooling but Tim and James are very busy getting ready to have some things to show you so I'm going to be very lucky. My preorder is in and some small details to finalise once fabrication is ready.
In other news I've tried to source a custom airbrush artist but he doesn't want to return my emails which is a shame as his work is immense. I also sold some shares recently that did rather well so this means funds are available to get this moving again.
Plan will be to do just cool the cpu first and get the loop done. The GPUs cooling will have to wait a bit longer until the blocks are ready.

I do have some pics of the lighting but I forgot to upload them to my imgur account. Thanks for being patient....!

nice work indeed

Thanks for looking.

I haven't been totally idle while I'm at sea either,

I found a good site all about polishing and supplies. I went away and started polishing a piece of aluminium (See image) we had here in the engine room and I was kinda stuck as we have nothing higher than 200 grit but the brasso helped. I want to get a very high finish on my anchor without too many scratches.

Anyway great site that even does polishing kits. I'll be ordering the Aluminium polish kit including the bench grinder as I will be able to use this again for the copper elements I'm doing in future (ops did I give something away.... ;) )

http://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/index.html

Some wee scratches still but that was caused by the fine file clogging before polishing. I reckon I could have done a better job if someone hadn't thrown away the spare porthole glass that I had kept for lapping. Very mad about that.

Looking good, nice case choice.

Thanks for looking

Wow that's pretty cool, I love that you're custom making the symbol, that just makes it so much more personal and awesome.

I'm just putting together my 1st real system, and thought I was adventurous to go for water cooling, an AIO at that! So yeah, mad props for really making it yours.

As a side, how is the game? My MB came with a 15 day code for the WoWarships game...

Thanks for the comments, stick some pictures of yours up on the forums we all start somewhere. Nice that you mention props, I have found a way to maybe add them to the build in an interesting way. Will be ordering something to try out and see if its going to work.

I love the game tbh, its the only thing I play these days. There is a thread over on the PC Games subforum.
Its not everyone's cup of tea but what's not to like firing big guns and navigating warships?? :D
I'm guessing you bought an Asus Z170 board and got the code, right or wrong?
