Projects...

Well, i'd like to do this progressively so there is no budget planned and no maximum budget allowed for.

I have around £5k now which I can use to start the project, but if over the next year or two I need other parts, bits, etc then I will try and finance it accordingly.
In that case. Kit car. :)

So you already own an e36 M3 and you want to take the engine out and put it into something a bit bonkers.

Ok, how about this for a sleeper. Put the engine and running gear in a bedford rascal. :p

No, sorry if you are all getting confused. I don't own anything of the sort (I wish), but I have seen a few M lumps for sale with running gear, looms, etc, although they seem to be from older E36 Ms.

Looks like you've got a bit to play with.
You could try Rear mount an engine in a Renault 5? :D

There are 4 projects that I wouldn't mind giving a go at some point:

mk1 MR2 with either a 20v 4a-ge (1.6, high revving, 170+bhp), a 3l camry v6 or the 1uz-fe as mentioned by Zip (lighter than the v6 i believe, not as light as the stock engine, heavy mods needed), the camry v6 makes the most financial sense, if you have patience you can get the donor car for £100 and sell the parts from it you don't need for £800+..

Triumph Spitfire with something like a 4a-ge, or go mad and go for a rover v8 or even a small block american v8...

E30 beemer with the 3.5l M30 engine that was used in the 635CSi (not sure how much the engine is though :p)

classic mini with a mid mounted hayabusa engine, rwd of course :p

Jez, maybe people want the better handling of the mk1 over the 'looks' of the mk2 (i actually prefer the mk1 looks but i know i'm in the minority :p)

project ideas from the back of thedudes mind...

Hayabusa powered Hillman IMP
Hayabusa powered Smart car
V8 powered Mx-5
Rotory powered mx-5
S2000 powered mx-5
m3 powered bwm 2001/2002
Twin supercharged merc :D
Datsun 260Z RB26 conversion

what kind of car are you after?

Fast Road, Drag, Drift, Bonkers, show and shine etc

I cant comment on a the setups that have been mentioned here as i have no experience with them, however, i have seen a 4wd R32 converted MK1 golf that was stripped out, turbo'd, 2 seats and roll cage.

That was pretty rapid.

Got a video somewhere, if i can find it i will link to it.

£5K is rather a lot to play with, why not buy someting like a banged up Sierra Cosworth and either build a car around it, fit the running gear to a new shell or just spend the money doing it up!

Five grand will build you a Sierra with a 5 litre Ford V8...

Just not quite what i'm looking for. Needs to be smaller. I'm like the ideas of a MX5 / MR2 but I know Novas and Corsa inside out#

Nova or Corsa with a turbo bike engine (or 2). :D

PUG 309 sleeper

200sx turbo lump, rear wheel drive conversion. Not sure how hard it would be to do, but it would be a bit different.

Funny you picked up a 309 GTi as I was going to mention this yesterday when I saw Penskis Rally video. Would love to find one of these. I remember being ferried around in a 5 door one when i was a kid and loved it long time.

Darko. The M lump is easy to find, and why would it need tuning?

In a car that weighs less than a J cloth, no tuning of circa. 320bhp is needed!

Firestar, loving that. Infact I think the new MX5 generally looks like a mini Dodge Viper

EDIT: Seen a 306 Cab with RWD and some stupid large engine round my way.

Step 1: Buy this.

Step 2: Buy an Alfa 164 (3.0 V6).

Step 3: Install Alfa engine in Lada via a BW T5/Getrag 'box and suitable axle.

Step 4: Turbocharge.

Step 5: Upgrade suspension and brakes.

Important: Leave car looking externally stock
