After yet another shooting of a black man by police in America I can't help wondering, when is enough, enough ? This time the guy they shot was unarmed and already on the ground, but they shot him several times anyway. I honestly am baffled by America's sadomasochistic attachment to gun violence. It just seems like the police over there are out of control and also appear to act with impunity.

I heard Russell Brand say something interesting yesterday. He said that more Americans have been killed by the police in the last few years, than all of the service personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. In America, you're 8 times more likely to be killed by a local policeman than by a terrorist.

Protect and Serve ? More like Shoot and Kill. I wonder how much of this is down to racism, or maybe just selective media reporting ? I'm sure white people get killed by the police every week, but for some reason it's the black murders that always make the news.

Homeless guy with mental disability is resisting arrest and gets shot, he happens to be black, everyone shouts racist.

Looks like another popcorn moment.

White people dying at the arm of the law doesn't sell papers.

I fully expect the city to burn to the ground from all the rioting coming up.

//I support free press but I do think that they need some form of reulation. This is just taking the mick.

Why are only the 'black shootings' publicised on this scale, I'm sure plenty white people get shot too.

He had a gun or was reaching for a gun.

They shot him to defend themselves and the public.

Don't see what the issue is.

This is publicised due to the seemingly horrific nature of the police brutality on show. How can an altercation with an unarmed man and that many officers require him to end up being shot dead?

His race is barely mentioned, except in this thread.

Doesn't sell papers though unless muslims do the shooting I guess.

It's hard to tell what happened from the video and the BBC is far from unbiased so I guess I'll have to wait for the court case rather than hunting down the full video.

This incident wasn't wholly race related, some of the cops involved were black themselves. The issue here is the cold blooded murder of an unarmed man, the police are bsing here, they had no reasonable ground to shoot a man on the floor pinned down by 5 guys at close range 5 times.

So glad we don't have cops with guns in the UK, otherwise we would get a lot of these incidents.

In a single incident the US Police discharged more bullets than the entire German Police Force did in a whole year. They are completely out of control and our Police are slowly but surely heading the same direction, they protect and serve the Corporations not the people they swore to protect.

Perhaps not the incident, but I can guarantee that if this was a white person gunned down by the cops, it'd be a teeny tiny article that would've probably gone unnoticed.

As it was a black man shot by cops in a country which is already in the limelight for this exact reason, it's front page news.

Sadly the press are more interested in cash and fame than helping douse out the very problems that are tearing our society apart.

He didn't have a gun but was reaching for one of the officers guns. I see the issue as the guy was already on the ground, unarmed, mentally ill, homeless. Several officers on and around him. He was then shot to death. In my opinion a life was taken that shouldn't have. They used excessive force.

Everything in the US seems to come down to race at some point, very sad. From what I read elsewhere the guy had apparently got hold of one of the officers guns, whether he'd got it clear of the holster is another matter.

It's what happens when you give people guns who shouldn't have them.

check this out
Bullets Counted In Police Shooting Of Fleeing Man
"Three officers unloaded a volley of 17 bullets at Antonio Zambrano-Montes, of which “five to six” struck the unarmed Mexican national during a fatal encounter with police in Pasco, Washington, the police unit investigating his death has revealed.
Won't embed since it contains a swear word from one of the guys discussing the video.
** Video link removed **

You know when someone does something and your natural reaction is to pause or flinch ? when someone has a gun you know what happens.

these people aren't properly trained for this clearly, I hope we don't end up with loads of police in the UK getting guns because stuff like this is inevitable without proper training.

people are police who clearly are not up to the job people who are terrified of conflict and can't handle the pressure of maybe getting into a fight

Who cares what that idiot thinks?

Ive seen a few of his videos. Its ALWAYS someone elses fault with Russell Brand, someone commits mass murder?

"Well violence is bad yea but lets look at whhhhhhy this is happening, why did this person commit mass murder maybe its our fault!!!" hes utterly odious.

OT: Ive watched the video a few times, all we know is that he is fighting with police.... who are armed. What do you think the outcome would be?

We can't see exactly what is happening in the fray anyway.

The cops can clearly be heard to tell him to drop the gun plenty of times before shooting him.

He was armed then. Otherwise he would have had nothing to drop.
