Protein Shake Question

Not the best place, but a great one to start. SA has some very knowledgeable heads and a lot of experience, most of which post on the main other boards that you will find quickly.

True there is more knowledge in here than i'll ever have, but the problem is people come here and they just want answers, sometimes you have to understand how to work things out - just knowing the answer isn't enough.

The thing that I find funny is the amount of posts about it, people are now thinking "Hmm this Whey stuff sounds like a muscle builder, he has 2 shakes a day i'll have the same", problem is his diet and goals means that he needs x amount of protein which he has decided he will get from a shake to 'supplement' his diet.

That is why you need to read about these things, learn about the how, the why and the where (and as much knowledge as there is in the sports areana I wouldn't say that a computer forum is the best place to be researching).

In a way, but should be pretty obvious what these products are designed for. It only takes a little research and a healthy diet to pick the right combination. I think the op has fallen into the trap of thinking that they are miracle powders.

I use mine which is a carb/protein mix to supplement some extra calories into my diet that i can't force down my throat in veg and meat. The extra protein helps to rebuild my oh so sore muscles :D

I advise some PhD Synergy-ISO 7. It has everything you could need from a protein shake, is better value than cyclone and it actually tastes nice! The choc-orange actually tastes like Terry's!

£33 for 2kg!!! shocking.
£1.10 per shake!! crazy :/
they recommend 2 a day, so that 1 tub will last 15 day! £66 a month just on shakes :/ - you must be mad!

I still do not understand why people are really that bothered about how something that is in your mouth for less than a second tastes. If it was a tea or a coffee, being drank over 10+ minutes then fair enough, but there is no need at all for people to pay such a price for a bit of flavouring :/

You don't just pay for the taste for the PhD stuff, it is an all in one which for me is extremely convenient - it just has the added bonus of actually tasting nice and each shake is 60g and requires around 500ml of water in order for good mixing so it is fairly important how it tastes.

you have been fooled by the marketing :/
There is nothing in there that you cannot either buy in bulk or do with out.

45g whey
15g oats
add creatine IF needed

add your own sweetener (though it really isn't needed) and your own flavouring.
Hell of a lot cheaper and just as good for you. Even if you don't flavour it all you taste is the oats.

I used to buy Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey which cost me £34 for 2.2kg. This month, I've bought 2.2kg of non-flavoured Impact Whey from MyProtein at a cost of £18. I also added on 2kg of Ultra fine oats for £5. No need to mess around with all the fancy stuff.

quick question, people are using the phrase "bulk impact whey protein" from myprotein, but i can't find that, do you just mean buy it in bulk?

also, a lot of people say use creatine if needed, how do you know if its needed?

really liking the idea of this cheaper stuff but it sounds like you need to know what you're doing to get the benefit...

Its not the taste so much but the fact some of them make you feel sick ,I had some chocolate stuff from H&B .....yuk

I've bought some mutant mass now in vanilla ice cream flavour its really nice ...yummy yummy it feels my tummy .

Is whey and oats a good substitute for breakfast even though I'm trying to lose weight?

If you have your diet planned out it's easy to see if the macros provided by the oat/whey combination work for you. I have 1 scoop whey and 1 scoop oats in the morning, and a large bowl of bran flakes. I need something whole in the morning to keep me going untill mid-morning meal.
