Protein Shakes

I've just decided to have weetabix and then a shake afterwards.

I had a weetabix (3 bars) and then a shake 35 mins after I left the gym.

Don't feel as bloated as I did earlier.

Try and have the shake as soon as you've finished the workout, your muscles are litterly crying out to be fed.

Would a vanilla protein drink be OK to drink 7-8 hours after making it? I go to the gym straight after work so don't have time to go home first...

TIA :)

With milk or water?

I guess if you keep it cool and have a spoon handy to give it a good stir or have it in a water bottle that you can shake about then yeah that should be alright?

I prefer them cool rather than room temperature so a fridge is a must.

You're best bet would be to do what I do and get some small plastic containers and put protein powder, oats etc in them and take them to work with you along wih your shaker.

Another recommendation for when you start taking protein.

DONT EAT INDIAN TAKEAWAY  (even if it is your mates b'day!)!

God this house reeks! Glad it's my mates! :)

I've recently got into the Whey protein lark too.
I have bought the flavoured stuff. I was just wondering what kind of 'dosage' would be best for me?

Basically, I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week and have a protein shake striaght after each session. I usually have a pint with milk and there's 1 to 1.5 scoops of the whey in there. Does that sound reasonable for if I was aiming to lose weight?
Obviously my diet counts too - I eat healthily 90% of the time.

I have about a pint for my whey protein shake.

This morning I had a large-ish bowl of wholegrain Nestle Clusters with skimmed milk followed by a shake consisting of

100g oats,
30g whey protein,
splash of robinsons summer fruits squash,
and water to make it up to about 550ml (just under a pint).

The oats and whey soak up the water quite a lot so you might have to add more water.

To be honest I didn't enjoy it this morning, it's the first time I've had a shake after breakfast and nearly 2 hours later I'm stuffed. It tasted very 'powdery'.

To avoid the oats settling at the bottom either drink it quicker or keep a spoon in the pint glass and stir it every so often like I did this morning.

At the moment I think I'd throw up at the sight or smell of another shake but hopefully being this full every morning will stop me going to the canteen for a greasy breakfast cob.

Is there anything that I can add to the above shake that aids fat loss? Any health concerns with anything you mention?

As I understand it, the first protein shake of the day is your breakfast - you shouldn't have cereal with it as well, no wonder you were feeling full! ;)

Or measure everything into your shaker before you go, but wait until you need to drink it before adding the milk or water ;)

Probably best to use water rather than milk.

But doing what S7yl3s said means you can have more than one shake ;).

But doing what I suggested means you have to carry less. Just use one shaker per shake! ;)
But then you can only have as many shakes as you have shakers.... and that's at least two, maybe three or four :p.

I put them in the tubs so I can have more than 1 if need be. It's no big deal just a carrier bag with bits and bobs in the car.

I consume protein & carbs every 2-3 hours so I always like to have a backup just incase I can't eat a proper meal. Whey & Oats can be a life saver at points.

I've been thinking about buying some of this whey protein. I have a few dumbbells at home plus this machine thingybob which has some weights on it. I never really take advantage of this, but last week or so ive shown a interest. After my exams I intend to get some more weights and go to the local gym.

So I've been looking for some protein powder.

So far this has been the best price I can find. http://www.sports-nutrition.net/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=12

As described earlier in the thread if you buy two and enter the code: MUSCLETALK you get a pretty good deal. £23 inc delivery.

Now I thought about how much I would need.

training day = breakfast, pre workout, post workout, sleep . 4 shakes
rest day = breakfast, midday, sleep. 3 shakes

3 days training per week = 12 shakes
4 days rest per week = 12 shakes

That would make 24 shakes a week

According to the site you need to take 2 25ml scoops (which makes 25g) per shake.

So 25*24= 600g per week.

Each tub is about 2.2 kg. So one tub should last me for just under one month.

ATM I weigh 15 stones and am 6 3 or 6 2 (cant remember what nurse said)

I eat 2 eggs for breakfast with 2-4 toasts. For lunch I can have anything from a pack of crisps to a baguette. Dinner depends on what mom has made, can vary wildly tbh from spinach/vegs with chappati to chicken with rice.

I have a bit of a beer belly I guess but would the above amount of protein be ok and is there any place I could get some cheaper powder?

in all fairness, we cannot say whether your protein intake is good or not because we do not know the rest of your diet or your LBM ;]

post work out shake - have it with water: 300ml water / 50g protein powder :]

why do you think you NEED to have it at these times?

post workout is the only time you NEED it.
