Prototype 2

Right, decided to give this a go anyway, here are my thoughts:

- M+K is perfectly fine, no problems with it at all, exactly the same as the first game for controls pretty much, obviously this sort of game is better using a controller pad though, but that guy in the video was way over exaggerating how awful the controls were especially when gliding etc.

But then as someone else in this thread said, I am a ninja/god so............... :D :p

- graphics wise, it is an improvement overall compared to the first, however, not by much at all and the textures are awful when looking at stuff close up, looks pretty enough from a distance

- performance, with a 4850 512MB and i5 750 and 8GB RAM (all stock) at 1080, is all right, changing settings doesn't seem to make much difference at all, getting around 35-40FPS average, game feels and looks smooth to me

- gameplay, pretty much exactly the same as the first one, just some new moves, movement and the majority of the stuff is the same more or less. Has followed the same trend as MP 3 regarding cutscenes, every 5 minutes of gameplay, you then have a cutscene pretty much (not as long as the MP 3 ones though, thankfully!) Storyline seems decent enough, very much like the first one again.

Overall I think I am just more miffed at the developers as they said specifically that the delay for PC was to improve everything for the PC version (I sort of knew this wasn't going to be the case though.......), however, there is nothing there to set the consoles and PC version apart as shown in that video posted.

Overall, definitely not a game worth the asking price currently, pick it up in the steam sales when it is around £5, not enough has been improved upon the first game especially when compared to the jump/improvements from Batman AA to Batman AC.

I actually just got this today, I have to say I think it looks a lot better then the first. Seems a lot smoother to me, is it the same engine?

I think £5 is a but low, for me right now it is worth at least £15, a lot less then I paid lol :) As I paid £20+

It does look better in some ways particularly the rain and puddles but other areas don't look any better and in some cases worse. Yesterday I was standing by a wall with graffiti and it was sooooo bad, the graffiti was actually a second layer, floating on top of the wall lol :p, will have to post a screenshot.

Yeah, I think it is using the same engine.

Maybe it is a bit too low, £5, but there isn't anything really different enough let alone improved coming from the first imo which qualifies it being worth more than £10 max. Even the movement/gameplay feels exactly the same, Mercer seemed more agile/ninja like :p where as with Heller it feels/looks more like brute force.

The story is pretty good though, at first thought it was rather straight forward and lame but it has added a few nice twists that has kept me glued to the game now.

anyone else having sound issues? I can't get any sound out of it... as soon as I open up the game it switches my sample rate to 48kHz and if I change it back to 44.1 it doesnt make any difference.

It stops all music playing etc. Tried with 2 different sound cards :(

I can't even play for 10 mins without it crashing. Good job I never bought the game the steam forums are fill with people saying it keeps crashing. ** no piracy talk ** it seems like it was a good job i tried it because it appears certain hardware configurations just cause it to crash after 10 mins and lose some of your progress.

After wasting £40 on blackops that never worked. I was not making that mistake again. Apparently the dev company was fired and there is no one left developing the game and no support. Sounds like a dodgy one to me. What a shame because i realy enjoyed the first one and just wanted to play the game.

I managed to complete the game but it was extremely annoying with the fps drop and mouse lag, the only way for me to get around this was to keep switching vsync on and off when it started to drop in frames or lag.

I'm upto 70% into the game and not had a single crash - runs absolutely flawlessly with no stuttering.

Running the game at 1080p on an i5 2500k along with a GTX 460 and getting pretty much 60fps on average with dips to 50fps during intense scenes.

Also using 296.10.

Fantastic game - really enjoying it!

Likewise, I have only had 1 crash throughout the entire game. The rest of the time it has been pretty smooth with virtually no FPS drop and no mouse lag.

Just completed it earlier and rather enjoyed it, really started to like the storyline half way through but thought it was rather stupid the ending with Mercer.

Anyway still stand by my comments, the game is not worth the current price over the first one, it is pretty much exactly the same game, just different story and character with a few improvements here and there. Overall I preferred playing with Mercer in the first game and his abilities, which you don't get in this one (or maybe I haven't unlocked them yet) such as armour mode.

I'm just playing my way through the first one now, and I'm a bit disappointed to see that most reports have the sequel as just more of the same with little development.

The first is quite flawed but superb fun at what it does well - making you feel like the biggest badass imaginable. For most of the game you feel awesomely powerful but there remains a challenge. You're not invincible and you need to be careful, but hey you can consume people and take on their appearance, turn your limbs into powerful weapons, hurl cars across a city block, leap up tall buildings...

The problem I'm having with it now is that it gets pretty samey after a while and the bland landscapes and numerous rough edges don't help keep you immersed. It's nothing like GTA in that respect. It never feels like a living, breathing city you're badassing around in.

The whole city is kind of plain and ugly, but most of all it MAKES NO SENSE! I mean, at the point in my game I'm at now, 49% of Manhattan Island is infected but... in many parts of the city life carries on as normal. On one block, buildings covered in viral matter spewing out monsters and infecting people; one block over and people are walking the streets, getting cabs, driving around, apparently taking a stroll in the park...

There's nothing inside any of the buildings either, it's all just a plain blocky climbing frame.

I have been thinking how damnably good the game could have been with more polish and more attention to these issues. With less of the silly chaotic scenes (that make no sense half the time) and more thought to level design than just throwing more and bigger waves of the same enemies at you time and again. And... oh look, another "challenge" to kill as many army/infected as possible in X minutes. How very different from the other 20 challenges to do exactly the same thing...

I was really hoping the sequel would build on the cool elements and polish up the weaker parts, but it's not sounding like that's what's happened at all, sadly.

Just been playing this and the only thing thats 'better' compared to the 1st is the graphics. They are still very similar to the original but the DX10 / 11 support does add a nicer looking finish to the visuals (but not much though).

As for the game itself, it might as well be an expansion pack for the 1st, I'd call it more Prototype 1.25, definately not worthy enough to call it a sequel and definately not worth the current price of £30. Hell, I would only buy this when it is £3.74 in the Steam Sales, which I dont think will take too long either ;)

Also, the controls in this are horrendous, maybe its my setup but playing with KB/M is dire, the camera has an odd way of de-centralising the player character and its really off putting. I reckon a controller is a must for this game, and lets be honest, you dont need any precision aiming, its all just button bashing all the time.

Each to their own, I'd give it 3/10.

As others have said, this like the first one is fairly flawed in certain areas but its still fun to play. I'm quite enjoying this just now.

This is 9.99 right now, is it worth a punt? Enjoyed #1, but this one is a horrid port from what i've seen. Is the Steam version the same?

Rez'd.

Grabbed this recently, have to say I have absolutely no idea what people are raving on about it being a bad port, it runs flawlessly maxed at 1080p for me, which I was very shocked about, as my FX-4100 is well, a FX-4100. Is it because of bad PC controls? Just grab a gamepad, simple. Some games are better on gamepad, or just flatout worth getting a gamepad for, grabbed one for Dark Souls, used it with this and have to say it's a beautiful game, looks very, very good, and runs flawlessly.
