Prototype

Impulse is crap compared to steam*. The client has some huge bugs and just doesn't feel as solid. Plus it's made by Stardock, you can almost guarantee the Impulse client isn't the only thing you're installing.

*potentially excluding range of games and pricing

I find the 2nd mission really hard.

SPOILER
When you need to defeat all those hunters and rupture the 6 fuel tanks to make the military base explode, I get owned by them before I can even destroy 3 of the 6.

Game runs ok, but not great, drops to 28 sometimes: 1920x1080, 4x aa, shadows medium, vsync off and graphics high. Averages about 35 fps. Not the best but playable. Graphics look a tad dated.

eh?

It's been good for most of us.

Just keep consuming the military guys, and try and blow the tanks when the hunters are by them - it tears through their energy and you get a huge HP boost from absorbing them.

Loving it so far, made a gameplay vid here (only a few levels in):

Runs flawlessly on my PC, and thats with 16x AA AF forced on. Currently playing with a keyboard and mouse, but this game has made me decide to get an xbox contoller and DVI to HDMI cable to play it through my HD TV.

Just picked this up today after watching my mate playing it last night, looks insane and reminds me a lot of Crackdown with some of the stuff you can do. Not sure if anyone else has had problems getting certain pads to work with it, my mate as a generic ps2 style pad and it wouldn't detect it. So he got this 360 pad emulator down and it works a treat now, i'll post the link if anyone needs it.

the game bit frustrating at time specially when u have no powers and have to protect the god damn doctor for 3.45 min.

could not pass the mission in 5 attempts playing on normal

i did it in one. If you have the hunter grapple and the smash your fists together thing its easy.

Its a pitty the mouse controls seem so bad on this(movement wise), as i prefer to use the keyboard for everything else and prefer a controller for the movement lol

I completed it today, and when i clicked continue on the credits screen my computer froze and had to restart lol.

When i started playing it, i bought all the movement upgrades first then after the 6th mission done all the "side events" and used the EP to buy power upgrades. The air dash is useful to get away from rockets and good to escape and transform down a back alley or something.

Right Ive been playing this a lot for the past few hours and I love it.
Ive never tried a pc game with a 360 controller but it works like a charm.

Im still impressed that so much can happen at the same time with graphics on full and the game dosent struggle.
I think rockstar could learn a few things from that dont you think.

Just to bring up what I recently discovered.

It totally ignores the default directory you choose to install to. I've got Windows exclusively on c:, and games and apps on d:. So I change the default dir to d and install a game. Where is it? On c: of course. Got round it by prompting for the install dir upon every install..

..except when your installing from a backup, then it doesn't ask you at all and just sticks it on c. Also the most pointless thing ever - unless you 'download and archive' you cannot use your post install archives on any machine install except the one your currently on. If you format/upgrade/whatever it gives you an error that the OS isn't the same. But strangly, if you download and archive it'll work.

Next one, if you don't turn off custom skins then the restore archive function doesn't even work.

Why can't we just stick with Steam? I don't want this inevitable stream of different games managers.

Thanks, I did it. Just needed to run around more like an idiot instead of standing still trying to fight them :).

Just so you know this game isn't a port,

They had 3 teams, 1 xbox 360, 1 ps3 and 1 PC where as GTA IV was a port, hence the bad performance.

I wasn't aware of that but, and no offence, I really don't get this "GTA IV rubbish performance" stuff.

I must have the best set up and low spec PC gaming system in the UK as GTA IV ran perfectly for me with absolutely no issues whatsoever. :p

That mission with the towers, I found it easier to pick up missile launchers dropped by the enemy troops and use them. Remember you can lock onto a target with the TAB key and jump all over the place like a loony. Even if you are not facing in the direction of the target the missile will still track towards and hit it when you fire.;)
