ps2 vs ps3

Strange, Most people i see posting up in threads say they love online aspects of games now, they didnt really exist with the PS2. And yet it seems theres more love for PS2 over PS3.

Saying that, I'm not sure which I prefer, Going on games, PS2 had more catalogue, but I've not been wowed by games as much as i have with these next gen consoles.

PS2 has a far more robust collection of games. I still play my PS2 because the games are just that good.

- Silent Hill
- Zone of the Enders
- Jak and Daxter
- Persona
- Onimusha
- Kingdom Hearts
- Devil May Cry
- Final Fantasy (arguably before it went ****** this gen)
- Prince of Persia
- Armored Core

all great series.

No online game comes close to an immersive single player.

Ps2 by a country mile...

It's been far to easy this generation for developers to make sub par games just because they can include a multiplayer aspect, which IMO the pc was better at 5years ago.

In addition the majority of developers are trying to please the Americans and as a result we are getting games tailored for stupid people...

PS2, playing GTA3, Sky Odyssey and Ico were truly magical moments. Unfortunately have not experienced that with the PS3...although age could be a contributing factor.

I had the same worry, but i returned to my PS2 and replayed Ico and discovered those same emotions were still stirred all these years later. Sadly gaming itself seems to have lost the magic, there still are some gems out there though!

I think people are underestimating the amount of high class ps3 releases.

Uncharted series
Batman
Infamous 1+2
Just cause 2
Bioshock
Resistance
Skate
Mirrors Edge
Red Dead Redemption
God of war 3
Killzone 2,3
Fallout 3
CODs
Demon Souls
Assasins Creed
Heavy Rain
La Noire
Mass Effect 2
Oblivion
MGS4

Sure many are multi platfrom but was there really this many good ps2 games?

I think Ps2 had more good/enjoyable/playable games but ps3 maybe has more big hits.

PS2 big hits mainly

GTA 3's
MGS2,3
FFX
RE4

I havent played ico or shadow of collous not a big fan off devil may cry but perhaps baynoetta, ninja gaiedn etc on ps3 are better? Soon will have MGS rising. Also I liked warriors and there was Bully, PES soccer games, red faction 1 was cool at time

The best of the best was better on ps2 but less overall.

The irony of the post above is overwhelming

No what I meant was.

out of the real class AAA games the PS2 versions are better.

FFX
GTA3's
MGS2+3

Are prob better than any game I played on PS3.

But PS3 has much more big hit games as I listed.

PS3 overall has loads of games that are playabel but not amazing like Psi-ops, bully, james bonds, Ominusha, Mercs etc...etc...

lol

So

PS2 has 5-95% + games
but only say 10 +90% games
It has load of 80-90% games

PS3 has:

maybe 2-3 95% + games

But 20+ 90%+ games

Less 80-90% games

I ask because i just had a quick look at metacritic to see how many games had over a 90% aggregate score and found this:

PS2 - 58

PS3 - 32

So that's nearly double the amount of games regarded by the masses as being outstanding.

[EDIT] Double post, sorry

Out of curiosity, what have you based those statistics on?

I based it on my own opinion.

Thats what this thread is about. Your opinion ps2 vs ps3

For me PS3 has more ''very good'' games, ps2 has more ''good'' games overall. PS2 has the best off the ''class'' games.

For me most fun I had with video games on ps2/ps3 was prob in order,

PES games on PS2
Vice city- ps2
GTA 3-ps2
San Andreas- ps2
Red Faction- ps2
Batman- ps3
MGS2- ps2
Uncharteds- ps3
Infamous- ps3
Assasins Creed 2- ps3
Mirrors Edge- ps3

Bear in mind I play cods etc on PC. and BFBC2.

this goes along with what Im saying..forget the % thing exactly BUT PS2 has many many good games...But IMO ps3 has more very good games but less good games overall

Ultimately you were the one that started questioning other peoples' opinions with statements like 'i think people are overestimating the high class ps2 releases'.

The masses disagree with you, indicating you're in fact the one underestimating the PS2

It really doesn't. It says that the PS2 has nearly double the amount of very good games as the PS3. Ultimately it's only a aggregate score of critics, but it's still a good indicator of what the general public will think.

I think the PS3 is a wonderful console, and i do not think there's anything wrong with thinking it's the best. I just think you're a bit hasty to declare that people are overrating the PS2, it was sublime in its day.

I never said people were overrrating PS2 I said underrating PS3.

PS3 has many very good games. More quality titles than PS2 IMO. But I had more fun with PS2 games at the time. And I think PS2 has a larger amount off games worth playing

PS1 > PS3 > PS2 > PSP for me.

Only games I remember from PS2 are the Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy games and I hardly played any PSP games, I mostly play SNES and PS1 games on it, lol

Just to let you know, the OP's original question is hugely flawed.

Firstly the PS3 is obviously better than the PS2 at this point in time, better graphics, blu-ray, online and in general games have moved on and things like PS3 COD games are much better than PS2 COD games, provably so.

Now if you're trying to ask us to judge PS2 when it was in it's prime compared to the PS3 as it is now you are asking an impossible question. Firstly memory is not perfect, both information and emotions are corroded over time meaning you cannot always accurately judge how you felt about something in the past, the further back you go the harder this is. I'm also sure everyone has heard of the term 'rose tinted glasses' this is the exact thing I'm talking about.

Furthermore, even if you did accurately recall the feelings you had for those games of yesteryear the biggest factor is you. You have changed over the past 5 or 7 years, your likes, tastes, memories and body have all undergone changes meaning that you are a different person now to how you were in the hay day of the PS2.

This means that unless you can put forward technical or provable data to back up your claim of which is better your conclusion is extremely biased and innacurate.
