It looks too much like the PS2 (with some Wii features thrown in).
I highly doubt a new facelift model till at least late 2009.

Well when you look at it the ps3 design is pretty much ps2 but with a rounded top.

I beg to differ. Look at the surge in sales the PSP has had since a redesign, not too metion the PSone and PStwo.

Because then they cant make it smaller and sell even more

Also in the life of the console they might use a smaller CPU/GPU die that produces much less heat so doesn't need soo much cooling fans.

I would also suggest that the mere fact that it is selling reasonably well alows for the redesign.

Remember its not just the shell and cpu/gpu thats redone, its also some pcb's, cable layouts potentially different PSU's also (not to mention a different /cheaper blue laseer diode for the ps3 specifically

Like any technology, it gets smaller, cooler, quieter and cheaper to manufacture as time goes by. The current PS3 is about as small as they could get it while being cost effective, eventually the cell, gpu and blu-ray diode technologies will have advanced enough so that they are produced as much smaller devices.

troubel with these redesigns is that it may hold off people buying a console now. I wouldnt mind picking up a PS3, just fo rthe Blu Ray, but I am holding off becuause of rumours of a better one coming out, I cant be alone in my thinking.

The opposite might also be true as it looks like the 40GB PS3 have a higher failure rate than the original 60GB ones.

I think the concept picture has been made by T3 to be fair, so it's pure speculation as to what it could possibly look like. They probably just photoshopped a Wii and PS3 together.
