Ps3 controller batteries?

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone starts selling 3rd party replacement batteries for the PS3 controllers, or maybe even replacement shells that somehow allow for a detachable external battery.

I agree it's a pain and that the 360 solution is far better but I'll give Sony a chance first. After all, my 360 battery packs that I've had since launch day are still going strong.

It's a proprietary battery built into the controller.

No replacement batteries, just replacement controllers.

News flash there, sony trying to force a proprietary system down peoples throats so they can make more money ? never ! :p

*betamax, memory stick, blue ray* -cough- :p

Don't worry folks they will fail with this one as well (very least 3rd party company will bring out a controller that you can change the battery's in, this company will be very rich), you would have thought by now they would learn customers hate, having no choice in anything, is a bad business plan ;)

I'm happy this way, the controllers are very light, I like it. They last a long time too after a charge :)

There are so many pessimists towards Sony, and funnely enough its the people who have bought their products!

You are seriously misguided if you believe that.

The controller will be refurbed, given a new battery, and re-sold.

So we'll see Sony selling refurbished Sixaxis controllers in a year or two then? I can't see that somehow. Who would want one anyway given that a controller featuring force feedback will be announced before the end of the year?

How quickly do you anticipate the batteries running out? Bearing in mind I have had my 360 one for bout 18 months and it still holds charge fine. I reckon it will last easily 3 years tbh. But it is not a worry for anyone at the moment who has bought a PS3.

rechargable batteries can be charged 1000's of times. assume a recharge say once a week, maybe twice a week. Do the maths.

We all know the reliability of sonys batteries dont we though? 10 million dangerous laptop battery recall and exploding dell laptops. Rumble would probably cause the batteries to explode. Li-ion capacity reduces by about 17% a year at 20 degrees. The typically quoted life is 1,200 cycles, but in the real world id bet its a lot less than that.

More ironic as well, Energize once made my ignore list for being a glorified Sony fanboy around the time the PSP launched. Used to trash DS threads all the time.

Sony have stated they will replace controllers that have batteries that lose their charge. I can only think they would offer this as they are confident the batteries will last long.

Were did Sony state that?
I think Sony will force players to Buy or pay for a battery replacement service! at about $25 a pop! :(
Or alternativly buy another controller! again at a small fortune.

But thats just my opinion on the mater.

it was stated as soon as it became apparent that the controllers were a lot like ipods with built in rechargeable batteries, are apple screwing you over aswell and trying to force a proprietary system on you to? not exactly proprietary when other manufacturers use the same system, and also if any of you trollers or xbots don't have a ps3 and don't have to worry about how long they hold there charge then your opinion counts for nil, goto one of the many xbox forums instead and spew your microsoft marketing rhetoric to the converted. Don't give people a hard time over their purchase choice - we are intitled to make up our own minds

People are entitled to their opinion and no opinion counts for nothing. I have bought a PS3 (on launch day) and do own a Wii and 360 and I don't like what Sony have done with their controller. If I hadn't bought a PS3 I would still be entitled to my opinion. Apple are also wrong for not including a user replaceable battery in my opinion even though I do like iPods.

So if you like the system it is ok, are you not being hypocritical?, and hey if all you can find to moan about the machine is the battery system in the controller then I'll take that over my xbox360 refusing to read disks, freezing up and sounding like a 747, and I like that console aswell

Not everyone feels like they should blindly think nothing at all can be wrong with a system they like

What a useless tread... Really you're complaining about something that has not happened yet and only guessing that it will
