Had a laugh when i saw this, esp when all the PS3 fanboys saying that the PS3 will no doubt be much cooler and less likely to suffer from overheating, lol

Ridge Racer 7 is just too hot for PS3

now they are saying its unfinished gamecode running on unproven hardware that is causing the problem, lol

It was obvious it would happen, obviously not all will overheat same as the 360, some do some don;t. But goes to show all those that said "PS3 would never have problems like the 360 zomg"

If true, though image looks to be a good starting point for the source, It's probably not the most ideal place to put a console, in the middle of a big, hot conference with a lot of sweaty journalists playing the machines 24/7. They're either new or still semi official machines, so they'll probably be a little tempermental. We'll have to wait and see if the PS3 gets these problems when we actually get our own hands on them, as this single case can't represent what's going to happen to the PS3.

Edit, though the source looks reasonably believable, you're going to have to remove the link due to swearing I think.

Surely the PS3 hardware is finalised by now - why are they still using an external fan to keep it cool?
Probably as I said, being a big sweaty hot conference where ventilation isn't at its best around the place.

Shouldn't matter if ventilation isn't great in there - the hardware should be able to survive in those conditions.

I've had 6 launch 360s all on top of each other with the power packs on top of each other in a hot office in a confined space - guraenteed hotter than it is there - no problems.

At the end of the day, we don't know what stage PS3 it is. If it's just one that's been batch produced and isn't the final product, then I'd accept that it will crash, but if it's a final prodution PS3 which if Sony wished, could have been sold to anybody, then I'd be concerned, as the conference would probably just be as hot as some parts of the US, and therefore if crashing there, will crash anywhere remotely hot.

have you seen the tiny enclosure it looks to be in?

My god people say the xbox 360 needs to be left ion the middle of a field in order to get proper ventalation. I have seen people on here suggest moving a 360 out of an entertainment cabinet in order to get it to stay cool.
First thing when a 360 breaks people ask 'is it well ventalated'
If the PS3 overheats shuts down and when it cools down again it can be playable its a step up from the 360 which overheats and goes to the big console heap in the sky.

bet the desktop fan will still be quieter than the 360. got one the other day and its the noiseiest thing in my room by a long shot, can hear it in other rooms if the sound is low

My 360 is pretty cool, even the DVD drive isnt the most noisy thing in the world TBH.

The noise from the 360 is not caused by the fans its caused by the DVD drive spinning up in games, something which the ps3 will no doubt suffer from as well.

thats a reasonable suggestion though - i know somebody who went trhu 2 dvd players and 3 sky boxes because their cabinate wasnt ventilated correctly. Melt down, all of them. anything that need a fan to stay cool needs ventilation.

With the drive spinning at only 2x, I wouldn't be so sure.
