ps3 crash help???

im baffled , i just played on it for a while without any problems now ,but i suppose it could happen again.

will see how it goes as ive backed up all my saves now , does anyone know how many years warranty you get for a new ps3?

well ive today my ps3 seems fine aand i played on it for nearly 2 hours with no problems.

yesterday i stuck a hoover up to the vents to suck out any dust , not sure if thats the best thing to do normally but if theres a problem i suppose its worth a try.

can anyone tell me how much warranty you get with a new ps3 slim?

do you get any extra year for any certain faults?

my phat has completly died today:( (3 years old)

*does it matter if i did not deactivate my account from the console?

thanks

Just the 1 year warranty, you can get the argos additonal 3 year warranty for £54,( i missed out on getting it for mine as it was over the christmas period and had ran out of cash) doesnt matter if u didnt deactivate your account if ur just getting a new machine, just log into it with your deatils

Ken you should have taken the advice earlier, backed it all up, and got a new slim. Your phat was showing the signs of an impending YLOD, in exactly the same way my 40gb phat did. Now if you are a brave man you can try fixing it yourself, by either taking it apart and using a heatgun or giving the hairdryer treatment.

I managed to fix mine and trade it in for a new slim - not the most honest thing but hey if sony produced a console that would last i wouldnt have had a problem. And this was a console that sat idle for almost a year!

You could try the hairdryer trick - i guess you have nothing to lose by doing so - at least you should be able to de-activate the system. Tbh the hairdryer trick really worked well for me and got more than 2+ hours use on it before trading it in.

My PS3 YLOD'ed in which I fixed with the heat gun technique. Does any know if its possible if I can still trade in my PS3 to the likes of Gamestation/CEX ?

Bare in mind its been opened up etc, the warranty sticker is missing

Cheers

They will look to see if the warranty sticker is there - it depends on the person checking to be honest. i put my sticker back almost perfectly and he didnt notice i had taken it off. He tested my ps3 by loading up some street fighter 4 and testing the controller. Worked flawlessly so he saw no reason to accept the trade in.

It funny as the heatgun treatment didnt work long for me - it was the hairdryer i used afterwards that did the trick. the fans were a lot quieter too after that

when i took my sticker off and stuck it back i can see the word void all over it , which im sure was not there before.

When taking the sticker off you need to heat it with a hairdryer beforehand so it melts the glue - the stickers are made so that if you take them off it leaves a void sign below. Warming with a hairdryer means both layers of the sticker come off and are not separated, so you can take it off in one piece and put it back as one afterwards.

well ive got a new slim anyway now ,but i would like to sell my phat ps3 for someone to fix but is it safe to sell if i did not deactivate it?

thanks

As far as i know deactivating helps for game and films 'sharing'. Like for PSN games, it allows you to have 4 or 5 shares, meaning you can your psn games on more than one ps3. By not deactivating you lose a share for that game/film.

Its not a big deal if you havent shared them with friends/family. Ideally you would like to deactivate and wipe the hdd of the phat before selling. The hairdryer trick realy is worth a shot to be honest. Personally i wouldnt bother getting it 'fixed'. Will prob cost you about £60 and the YLOD fix is temporary anyway. Its only worth it if you can do it yourself.

:( Just happen to me i was so very close to finishing GTA5

3 beeps then restarts and red light flashing.

it tries to do a restore and crashes again.

Taken GTA5 out of the PS3 now.

How to tell whether failed installations or random crashes/freezes/glitches are caused by a bad disc or console hardware issue

http://support.rockstargames.com/hc...aused-by-a-bad-disc-or-console-hardware-issue

Question: I am suddenly experiencing random and intermittent crashes, freezes, and crazy glitches all over the place. I have cleared my cache, deleted game data, re-downloaded the title update, tried to play without my save files, and nothing works. None of my friends’ games have these problems, so it can’t be game itself. How do I know if the problem is my disc or my console?

Answer: Rockstar games frequently read data off the disc, and the following behaviors suggest that the game cannot read the disc and there may be a problem with either the disc or the console.

Grand Theft Auto V

No audio
Cut-scenes stuttering or freezing in random locations, but only on that disc or console

Sound effects playing, but no dialogue audio or dialogue cutting in and out

Random, non-reproducible crashes and freezes that only happen when using a particular disc or console

Getting to a spot where you know there should be a cutscene, but no cutscene plays and all you can do is walk around the area

Stuck on the "loading story" screen

Generic text showing up in Xbox dashboard or PS3 XMB when viewing game icon

Popping in of objects in high level-of-detail environment or textures, objects being unusually slow to load in

PS3 beeping and turning itself off

Being kicked back to the PS3 XMB or Xbox 360 dashboard without warning

Being unable to install the game to the hard drive on 360 (stalling at the same % each time), or freezing during game data installation on the PS3.
