PS3 Firmware 1.80 announced - Upscaling and Remote Play

I've been waiting for the DVD upscaling, and PS1/2 games being upscaled is a bonus :)

Regarding PS1/2 game upscaling, forgive my stupidity this is the first I've heard of it, are we actually going to see the games running in these high resolutions?

I read the post in a hurry the first time, I just re-read it.
It's also going to allow streaming of content from the PC?

Upscaling and Streaming in the next update?

Of sorts, you will still miss all the AA and stuff, and it will look low resolution, it just wont look quite as bad lol
 
standard dvd playback on my ps3 is top draw stuff. its funny how some people are saying its terrible and some are saying its outstanding :confused:

Aye, I'm very very impressed with the scaler on the X360, it uses a hardware scaler though, is that what the PS3 has?
 
nope. concidering 90% of FFVII is set against 2d backdrops, i wouldnt expect scaling to do too much. that was the problem with playing it on the pc (in a slightly 'grey' way we wont get in to). you can scale 3d models but when it comes to 2d pictures you're either going to blow them up and soften them or else they will pixellate.

dont expect much.

As a seperate post to the lack of upscaling...

I watched Pans Labyrinth tonight on DVD via the Playstation3 using a Component connection to a Sony KDEP42XS1. Quite simply, it's the best picture I have ever seen on DVD (and we have over 400 of them), and we have upscaling DVD players, expensive ex-top of the range DVD players and an Xbox360. I have never seen a DVD look that good before.

I'd go as far to say as it's almost as good as The Pursuit of Happyness on Blu-Ray (The worst looking of my 5 Blu-Ray movies).
