PS3 is already outFLOPing everything else

Have you seen the stats today?

Code:
OS Type Current TFLOPS* Active CPUs Total CPUs
PLAYSTATION®3 564 23027 24640

yep they went a bit mad overnight so it would seem - the project overall is getting very close to the 1 petaflop barrier too, and that's based on a conservative measure (we could already be over it in real terms)

It's also been noted that all other platforms have experienced an increase in TFLOPS and active CPUs over the last couple of days - good publicity :)

I think the PS3 will start to see a slight drop off after a few weeks. But either way, it is all good for the Folding project really. Seems it was quite a good idea to stick it on this wee machine lol

How do all these TFLOPS convert into PPD? Surely if the PS3s are doing 50% of the total crunching the PS3 teams will rise at a massive rate thru the table.

FAH doesn't use FLOPS to determine points. It uses a benchmark machine. Points are set on how long it takes that machine to crunch the Wu then they divide it my a semi-arbitrary baseline PPD figure to reach the final point value. I, however, don't know what the formula used for the PS3 is.

I don't think the points are related to the TFLOPS at all...

Notice how the GPU client has the best TFLOP rate per client yet everyone uses SMP because it gives points than the GPU client.

PS3 units are 287 points, not sure how many hours they're taking yet though.

They take 7-8hrs each - the benchmark figure for the PS3 is about 900PPD

I see, though I understand they stop crunching completely when the PS3 does pretty much anything, ie. watch a film, play a game etc. so I doubt many PS3s will stay at that PPD

yep as far as I understand it the only things you can do are play with the map thing or surf the internet by visiting the Stanford webpage then finding links from there (the address bar is locked out so you can't just enter a URL  ) luckily Stanford have a link to Google on their help page so from there you should be able to go anywhere :D

Well i plan on stomping several people. I estimate being able to do about 861 PPD with my current time i get to play on my PS3 and the time it's F@H.

Edit :- I've climbed 150 Places in the total Team listing in one day.

That's about the same output as I'm getting from my X2-3800 with the SMP client at the moment :o
(I guess I could upgrade a socketA machine with a decent PSU to a Conroe based machine for just under £300 and get more - I'm not quite that addicted though :p )

I may aswell post a daily update - very very nearly there now

I'm betting that many of those PS3 owners will be adding their PCs to the fold too :)

hand up
that's me! /hand up :o

But I'm not buying a PS3 just for folding!

That's because everyone at the bottom of the list is inactive and all about 20 points :p

Everyone stomps a couple of hundred when they first start :p

Yeah a couple of hundred in the first week quite often - however this is in only the first 2 days or so

900ish PPD will put a PS3 well into the top40 producers in the team in a normal week
