PS3, is that real?

Sorry,i should have been more specific. You hated the xbox because it was a cheap PC?

I've just had a look at mine and i must have bought the wrong one then.It doesn't have any usb ports, doesn't support a mouse and keyboard and i don't think it can access the internet.

Just had another look............Yep...............Looks like a console. Its even got a control pad attached to the front.

I think the point being made is graphics are nothing.

My favourite and still most played game of all time is TTD. That is not even 3d.

No, I beleive when it was first released, it was a showcase as to what the PS3 is capable of. And they claimed it was real footage

It was showcased as what they thought the PS3 would allow them to be capable of, to build up some hype. Same with most of the trailers from E3 2005. Obviously most of them were a bit over ambitious, but theres nothing wrong with that. Thats the purpose of a target render, its something to aim for.
But as yewen said, its the gameplay that is most important. The fact that it does not look as good as the original trailer does not affect what the gameplay will be like.

You clearly have no idea about the xbox.

Nforce chipset
Pentium CPU
Nvidia gf3/4
HD
DVD

Xbox 360

Custom GPU
Custom IBM triple core cpu

Need I go on?

:/

It was infact half celeron/pentium 3, with a CUSTOM nvidia chipset and a CUSTOM gpu from nVidia. Admittedly it had an awful lot to do with the geforce 3 Ti's, but, the 'Custom GPU' in the xbox 360 is a fettled ATi R520 aka
the X1800's.

ZOMG the 360 has a dvd and a hard drive, and is therefore a pc.

What ever you say - it's an Nforce with a geforce 3. Oh then we have the cpu which is virtually a celeron. And no - the Xenon is more custom than you make out. It's based on the R600 rather than 520, but is similar in performance to an X1800/1900XT.

And proper consoles have little fairys inside that make all the magic appear on the screen.Even if you do think its a cheap PC,don't you think its a bit childish to hate it?Or do you just hate MS in general?

No you're not getting my point.

Reason why I liked the PS2 - it was a console. It wasn't ported from the PC.

Reason why I disliked the Xbox - it was ported from PC. The reason why it worked was programmers could just focus on one set of hardware.

Reason for liking 360 - Custom GFX chip, custom IBM chip - stuff that I can't run out and buy like a triple core powerpc chip, custom chip with 10mb edram.

And for the record I do like MS.

just to put the thread back on topic

none of the OP's videos are in game footage

yeah there all pre rendered. I remember when i first saw that killzone one i was just stunned. Then i heard it was pre rendered and thought sony suck. Ive never been a huge fan of sony but never had anything against them. This time round how ever i seem to have a huge dislike for them. Blatently stealing 360's central button idea. Stealing Wii's controller. They blatently thought when they first showed it **** we need something a bit new and just stole the ideas. I think the PS3 will pump out some nice graphics but i dont see how they can expect people to pay such large amounts especially when it is just a little bit up from a 360. I was amazed when i went into a shop and 23 people had pre-ordered a PS3 but only 2 people a Wii. I simply dont understand but i guess each to there own :)

This whole 'stealing' thing has been done to death. How exactly did they copy the idea for a button? You could also say that MS copied the PS2 contoller by putting the 'LB' and 'RB' buttons on the 360 controller, but of course that is just as ridiculous. There's only so many button configurations you can have on a similar shaped controller.
You could say the idea for a console that can by either horizontal or vertical was also copied from PS2, but again that is ridiculous.
Then there's the contoller tilt/acceleration sensing in the PS3 controller that people accuse Sony of stealing. For a start, it was patented in 1999, only to become practically and economically (ahem) viable now. Not that it matters anyway, since the Wii controller uses totally different motion sensing (external sensor as opposed to an internal sensor, allowing different kinds of movements such as swinging a sword).
As i have said earlier, the E3 2005 trailers were target renders. Would you rather they show nothing? Using that logic you could also hate MS for showing those pre-rendered Forza 2 trailers. It makes no sense.

I do agree with you about the price though, as that is down to personal preference. If you aren't interested in having a HDTV and watching Blu-ray movies, then the price of the PS3 is not really justified until there are price drops.

Like others have said,

its pre-rendered footage,

so i'm not impressed tbh

Also that physics, video, were released AGES ago, so its got nowt to do with the PS3

The PS3 will not blow away PCs. The PC will pretty much always be superior to consoles

Only so long as a console design is crippled by its very low price point, and remains an un upgradeable platform, and developers have less freedom.
But give the engineers a 'skys the limit' price point to design a games machine, and then a re design every 6 months, with total freedom for developers, then the PC as a gaming platform would very look silly, PCs are traditionally inefficient for games.
If a niche opens up for a £1500 custom built console, then be afraid :p

When you say always, lets not forget, the PC was never a superior gamer than the Amiga, SNES, and Playstation 1. For many years the PC argument was 'crisper graphics', because of consoles only working on low res Tv's.

I agree, dont say always because the two might easily merge. Theres a thin border line between console and computer now and its an artifically created one if anything.

Theres nothing really to stop MS making the 360 browse the internet and so on, they could easily add a keyboard and mouse. Maybe rogue companies will do this despite MS anyway, like linux on the ps2.

If I was MS I would do that but I guess the sums dont add up for them, they need the game sales. Too much of anything else is not profitable overall for them

But it would be a very smart move to allow for keyboards/mice/net/word processing etc. to be done on the PS3. That would mean a fair few people leaving vista and a PC to move over to an all in one... although that would be a smart business move that would take some of their competitors business. Sony will never do it. :p
