PS3 Lie ?

Im not slating the PS3 im slating that screenshot and the blatent lies. whilst also laughing at past sony lies. That is all fact which Im sure all the non fanboys will agree with. At no point did I slate the PS3, Im sure it will be very good, just not as good as sony will say it will be :D

That doesn't look too bad at all - looks about the same as the Xbox 360 to me. The car looks like it's shaded much like the cars in PGR3 are and the ground looks pretty convincing.

Nothing to bash here - a lot of consoles are over-hyped - including the 360. I've yet to see a game on the 360 that's made me drop my pants and allow the 360 to give me a jolly rodgering.

Graphically it looks on par with the 360 - which is what I'd expect.

And yes, I do love my 360 - unbiased view here :)

Personally the ground looks far far too flat, and the tyre marks aren't coming out and saying 'we're tyre marks' to me. Maybe it's just a basic version that's not had all the after processing done to it/finished so it all looks bumpy and more realistic.

But, this is a blurry, shakycam style image, so we can't really judge it 100% yet. I'll go out and say from that screenshot, it could be run on a PS2. (Maybe badly, as the car is probably rather detailed ;))

Have to agree with monkee really. Looks like a photo of a screenshot, so theres really no clue as to the amount of detail in the car, but the lighting looks ok, and it looks liek a high polycount.

I'll totally reserve judgement on the PS3 until I see one running. I may or may not buy one depending on how good GT5 is and if PGR4 is out by then. Thats the only exclsuive title I want, other than that I love my 360. I hope sony put up a good showing to be honest - Microsoft have a great product at the moment, but if they outright won this round it would be terrible for gaming in the long run, as they need competition to keep them on their toes.

As for 360 graphics and the whole next gen thing - to be honest its all hype. What we are seeing is consoles catching up with PC quality graphics, which when displayed on a big screen look great, but when side by side on a monitor look only as good as a PC game. As I say, I love the 360 - its saving me a fortune in PC upgrades as its persuaded me away from PC gaming. I'm not blinkered enough to think it cant be bettered though. The Live service, after its early promise with a flawless PGR3 has sinced been a let down, and I dont think this will change until either MS or games developers invest in central game servers.

Right now the 360 is an amazing experience, and I cant understand people holding back for the PS3, when the cost of the console is only about 5 games anyway. What sony brings to the table in 9 months is anyones guess, but for now theres a whole of of fun to be had on the 360. Only thing for certain is theres never been a better time to be a gamer :)

Sorry to be the one to break it to you Wile.E, but the graphics in that vid were pre-rendered (well.... the FPS bit deffinately)

How do I know ?
1) Everybody on the internet knows
2) I know people who worked for the company that did it :)

I'm sure the PS3 will have great GFX.
But like people have said, no where near as good as Sony claim though.

Indeed, a 3d explosion like that with millions of particles would absolutly kill most graphics cards im sure. Its always really irritaded me how Sony use pre-rendered video to make their console seem better than it is. I remember around the time of the PS1, in the main games retail shops they would show loads of impressive videos from its games on TVs which looked amazing, but didnt show anything of the game at all. Then you see the games and they were incredibly shoddy.

Smoke and Mirrors.

Until better stuff comes out on the 360 then I see no reason for ME to buy one, even if we put aside the high (to me) cost.

Until the PS3 comes out, most games will be written for PC and existing gen consoles and 'ported up' (if not sideways) to the 360 as an afterthought. I play 90% driving games only, and the only reason I would get a 360 at any time, never mind now, is if there was a killer app driving game, and possibly an arcade flight sim better than Ace Combat 4/5. Until/unless these games come out, I will never buy a 360.

That's one of the reasons I don't own a 360, along with my education and financial situation, where I don't have time to play, I'm waiting for more than two 'killer apps' (or just KOTOR3 :p)

I wonder what games on the XBOX 360 looked like 8 months before release btw?

I can't remember the build up to the 360 launch, were there any screenshots released that far in advance?

For me it had the killer app from launch - PGR3.

Whether a game is ported or developed seperately is a developers decision. COD2, GRAW where done seperately, by different teams. PGR3 is an exclusive title, as is RR6 (for now) and Kameo. BF2 has been rebuilt from the ground up but some games are are 'lazy' ports such as GUN, Fifa etc. I think when the PS3 is out there will still be that same mix.

Still, you buy a console on the games - I personally think the 360 line up is great now - PGR3, GR:AW, Burnout Revenge, and COD2 multiplayer are all keeping me very occupied, and are titles that I couldnt experience in the same way on another platform, but if none of them float your boat then fair enough.

PGR3 isn't a killer app for me because it offers me (note the 'me') nothing new that PGR2 and PGR1 don't, beyond more detailed graphics. Burnout Revenge? Fantastic game. However, I already own it on the Xbox so it's not a killer app for the 360 when it's only slightly better than that version. GR:AW - on the Xbox (albeit apparently much more crap) but that type of game has never appealed to me, I hate squad type games on any platform, and FPS or 3rd person shooters on consoles generally.

RR6, I'm sure I'd enjoy it but to me it's no killer app as I'd get bored of it after a short period based on past RR games. Kameo, not my cup of tea. Oblivion, I don't like RPGs. I tried KOTOR on the Xbox and gave it a fair go, but just didn't like it. Really not my thing at all. It could have 200fps lifelike graphics but that type of game just doesn't do it for me.

Fair enough - for me PGR3 is the first driving game to offer true immersion, mostly through the in-car view, and the way mavity moves your head coupled withthe dynamic lighting etc. I havent seen any game on any platform offer anything close.

Burnout - I have this on both systems. I never really got into the xbox1 version that much - I like my games multiplayer and Live implementation is pretty good on it.

You dont seem to like many genres of games though - what on the PS3 are you looking forward to?

Why is everyone slating dirtydog, he's entitled to his opinions, in most part he is correct. He would love the Xbox360 if he had one, but he has no reason to get one for the games currently out, he wants the ones he wants. A lot of people here, me included have one and play a lot of games anyway.

There is nothing wrong with waiting for it.

He's also right with the screenshot, as I said, I can't pass judgement til I see it running.

I'm not looking forward to anything on the PS3, it is highly unlikely I would ever buy a PS3, unless they redesigned the controller to make it like an Xbox or Dreamcast's, ie. with the analogue stick in the primary position, and with analogue triggers. It doesn't matter what games are on the PS3, I cannot abide the Sony controller design. But who knows, maybe they'll see sense and use the MS/Sega style.

You're right, I don't have a broad taste in games, it's mainly driving games which a console is ideal for. Apart from the three Dead or Alive games on the Xbox (DOA 3, Ultimate and Volleyball) all of my Xbox games are driving games :)

ah - I think we have crosswires then. My original post was aimed at people not buying a 360 because they are holding out for a PS3.

Nokkon - not sure if that was aimed at me but if you read my posts I think you'll agree that I'm in no way slating dirtydog, or even the PS3 screenshot.
