PS3 Lie ?

Indeed, a 3d explosion like that with millions of particles would absolutly kill most graphics cards im sure. Its always really irritaded me how Sony use pre-rendered video to make their console seem better than it is. I remember around the time of the PS1, in the main games retail shops they would show loads of impressive videos from its games on TVs which looked amazing, but didnt show anything of the game at all. Then you see the games and they were incredibly shoddy.

Smoke and Mirrors.

You mean like Ghost Recon 3's advert where it's entirely pre-rendered? My Dad said, "Wow, that game looks fantastic" when he saw that advert - I had to point out to him the fact it was pre-rendered.

My point? Both companies do iI was very disappointed with my frame-rate in GR:AW - when you consider this is the console that's meant to be handling games such as Gears of War - a game based on the horribly advanced UE3 - with smooth frame-rates, my opinion of it get lowered a bit.

Not saying it's a bad console at all - it's just not as good as it's hyped up to be.

think you'll find its not classed as pre-rendered as its actually using the ingame engine and its now illegal to show footage thats Pre-rendered in game adverts. Also please explain where you have suffered disappointing framerates with GRAW , i've not seen any except from the odd graphic tearing glitch on certain objects?

It's not and it's not. The advert uses pre-rendered footage with the handy "not in-game footage" disclaimer in the corner of the screen, thus avoiding getting done for what Call Of Dtuy 2 did.

2 points

no its not illegal, its only illegal if you dont state "not ingame footage" i brought the GRAW advert up a few weeks ago, i hate it when companies hide behind prerended stuff to promote their stuff, i.e activision, GRAW, and sony etc

GRAW for me on a normal CRT had slowdown issues at some point, i did have severe slowdown when i blew up an APC

So you think GRAW is pushing the 360 not even close and we wont see it getting pushed for at least another year

As far as i am aware EVERY game thus far on the 360 only uses 1 of the 3 CPUs unders its hood

We havent seen anything yet thats why its talked about so highly because its producing great next gen games right here right now and things will only improve with time

Its a great time for gamers

Takes time for developers to get there heads round a new console, theres better to come without a doubt

is this the same as the PGR3 shots from photo mode that everyone went on about for ages?

and then before that the GT4 shots, that everyone knew were from photo mode?

everyone will promise the world, and sadly, no-one can deliver it.

Its a shame that those 3 Cpu's all share the 1 L2 cache :(

COD2 uses 2 cores, 1 for the game and 1 for the smoke, Full Auto uses all 3 cores, 1 for game and the other 2 for the "rewind"

G.R.A.W must be using more cores, that game is constantly thinking :P

Still as said before there is still lots to come, Gears of War is one of em :D

I think it's now law that all in non ingame footage must be labelled so on televsion adverts. This is a step in the right direction. Shame nothing can be done about the hype on the web.

Nokkon - not sure if that was aimed at me but if you read my posts I think you'll agree that I'm in no way slating dirtydog, or even the PS3 screenshot.

It wasn't aimed at you, it's been across threads for around 6 months.

havent read all posts but surely the 360 show pre rendered stuff before the game saying it will look like that or whatever?

I think you're mixing two different debates up.

One being between how games are advertised on the TV, like GR:AW with dodgy CG, and a lot of other games out there, which need 'Not in Game Footage' etc.

The other being the pre-rendered videos you get at the game shows that beasically showcase what the developer intends their product experience to look and feel like, but nothing like that in real terms.

Those screenshots are a world apart, however I think this speculation will just continue until the console is out or somebody has the hands on a console until then most of it is just speculation.

What about in the build up to the release of the 360, I can't remember that far back as I wasn't really paying much attention to it...were there a lot of prerenders flying about months before the release?

I don't think saying how much 'power' a game is using is particularly useful. You could make Pacman and it could utilize 100% of the 'power' but it would still look like Pacman.

I really don't remember MS ever really pimping any of the games with Pre-rendered stuff, but more that they advertised the 360 with just random adverts. MS certainly havn't been as bad with pre-rendered showcases like Sony have in the hype generating department, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong. I know a lot of PGR3 shots for example used photomode to the advantage to show off, but the vast majority of PGR3 has impressed me.
