Ok heres the problem (or not) someone at work wants to buy my old 60Gb PS3 off me for £250, this includes my 160GB HDD. Looking around thats not a bad price and ill have plenty enough cash to get an 80gb with the money from that and some old games ill sell him. Ive not used the PS2 emulation for nearly a year now, I use the card readers quite a bit but have a couple of card readers about, and have no use for SACD. So the dilema is, he isnt going to wait for ever for me to sell it, probably only a week or so, but its a great price IMO. The problem is do I buy an 80GB PS3 now or wait till the slim comes out mid August/September, i guess i could get an 80GB and trade it back in (for less money) when the slim is out. One more issue is if the slim is out September time im sure the 80GB price will drop by at least £100 to clear the channels August, so i will be losing out that way as not only will i have paid more for it i will get less trade in. A few options i have that may or not work is that,

Keep my 60GB until nearer the time (hoping they dont announce PS2 emu for all PS3's) get less money for it but not run the risk of it costing me more to get a slim in the long run.

Sell my PS3 and sit on the money till it comes out, not sure if i could wait 2 months without a PS3, sure i can still game on my 360, wii and PC but ill miss my BDs and PS3 games.

Sell my PS3 get an 80gb now trade in games for credit etc etc then get slim when it comes out and trade in 80Gb, but after a month or so use it will be worth less than half i paid for it.

It all depends on the rumours of the slim happening soon to be correct, which in most Sony type things seems to be true as they seem to be leakier than a cheap babies nappy.

Give the 60GB to me and i'll give you my 40GB and a hug, bargain!

Or, alternatively, sell your 60GB and buy a 80GB, it'll be cooler, probably quieter, use less electricity and have a 1 year warranty, sounds like a winner to me.

I do give very good hugs though.

The slim hasn't been announced or confirmed yet, and unless I'm missing something there's hasn't been much in the way of solid rumours either. Seems a bit silly to base an entire purchasing decision on something we know nothing about.

If you're selling the console for £250, is it really worth then buying an 80GB? Unless you don't actually want a PS3 any longer, I don't really see the point in selling it.

The PS3 Slim will definately happen, It's just a Sony thing to make all their consoles smaller, but to hold off on this deal because of a rumour
'it could happen soon' Is bad, Snatch his hand off, and get yourself an 80gb. As I could see it being a good 6months+ before we actually see the slim.

As for reasoning behind swapping out a 60 for a new 80.

New Intact warranty
Low power consumption,
better build quality
Less Heat

vs

More Memory card slots and USB ports
Backwards compat (Although you stated you dont use it anyways)

True it dont make much sense to basically downgrade to an 80Gb, but im not really after an 80gb just the slim when it comes out. The less power and being cooler and even quieter is a bonus but like i said its mostly to get a slim.
As for it being confirmed or not, on listen up they have heard that its going to be tied with Madden in the US for August, they had the PSP go info pretty much spot on. Also on Podcast beyond ( BEEYOOOONND) they let it slip about the slim existing, and not in there jokey way, there is also plenty of evidence of at least a price drop coming soon. Plenty of US shops have done bundles that have sold out, reports of less than 6 weeks worth of PS3 in the channels etc etc. It all looks pretty likely to be happening soon and Sony has a 3 hour  conference planed for GC in Germany in a few weeks time, maybe they will announce it thier like they did the 80GB and 160GB the year before.

There's always going to be people happy to pay a premium for the 60GB PS3s, so I wouldn't worry too much about trying to get your money's worth. I'd even go so far as to say that £250 is cheap for one of those.

Besides, aren't the 60GB PS3s going kaputt these days? You'd be better getting rid of it before you get a YLOD.

Poor, Whappers. :(

There is no way you would live without your PS3 for the minimum 2 months (AT THE VERY LEAST) it will take before PS3 slim hits the streets in the UK/EU.

I sense you will keep your 60gb, or sell it and buy an 80gb while you wait for the slim one.

Sell it, buy the cheapest 2nd hand PS3 you can find, stick the remaining cash in the bank, then when/if the slim comes out, sell the old PS3, pull the cash out of the bank, purchase shiny new slim.

Good idea, but use under your mattress to store the cash, instead of the bank. Instant access and better interest rates.

Definitely sell it, whether you instantly buy an 80gb or hold out for the Slim I guess that depends on whether you think the wait will give you the shakes.
