Hey guys

My PS3 is just over a year old and now has no display via hdmi. No one moved it or touched it, going to phone Sony tomorrow will they fix it for free?

What is there normal turn around time?

Thanks Kevin

Turn around, depending on the unit, can be anywhere from 24 hours (straight swap for a replacement the next day on your doorstep) to 4 weeks (repair of your unit). Generally if you have either a 40 or 80gig unit it'll be 24 hours, it's the 60gigs that take longer.

Have you tried resetting the image settings? When you power it on hold the power button and it'll beep a second time, this resets all output settings to default. I say this because it's strange that the image would 'just go', no errors or anything. You never know, might save you a phonecall.

since the image just went it might be the hdmi lead/pet chewing on the lead

our cat chewed on the lead and now only works on good days unless you fiddle with it, try another hdmi lead or component lead to see if its that before calling sony

I had one go like that without any animal interference, bought a cheaper hdmi cable and it's been *touch wood* fine since.

Hi guys,

Tried it with the hdmi cable I use for my xbox and still didn't work phoned sony and they want me to try reset it via the SD connection but I will need to wait until I am home :(

resetting might work but it is a long shot, when I was looking for some info on my YLOD problem I found some more people with HDMI issues and I can't remember seeing that a reset fixed it.

then im assuming you have used the xbox in hd since? maybe its the hd side of the tv?

Tried both of my dad's Panasonic plasmas and my tv has 4 hmdi slots and I have tried all 4 on different cables.

Will phone again tomorrow and let you know how I get on :)

they must have been tightening up on regulations recently.. because when i phoned 3 or 4 times regarding my 40gb and the blu ray laser failure, each time it was chargeable and there was nothing they could do (it was a couple of days out of warranty :( )

Good news guys :) I complaint to Sony directly rather than the call centre number and they are giving me a replacement for free :)

On another note after all this hassle, I no longer want a ps3 and will be sticking with MS as at least they don't make you jump through hopes for a replacement.

I had this issue, it's to do with the hdcp protection via hdmi not working properly and therefore no picture appearing.

You can reset the display settings by holding the power button down when the system is off, going in with it connected via the scart cable and re-setting up the hdmi settings.

Just an FYI for anyone else having this issue.

Not sure of your logic, Sony repair it for free when they have no reason to and its still bad service? Oh well no pleasing some is there :)
Did you try it on the composite connection you never said, just that my bro PS3 did this once he tried on 2 different TVs over HDMI. He connected the composite and HDMI lead plugged it into the TV had a picture changed over to HDMI and it worked. Never did work out why it suddenly "forgot" the settings though.

Hi guys it worked via the scart connection that came with it, and it worked for a day or two after the reset but would randomly go to a black screen mid film/game. I dont like sonys serivce as I have been phoning emailing for nearly a month to get them to look at a console that was only 1 month out of warranty when I phoned them the first time.
