IBM definately have some sort of Cell Control, But I couldn't tell you, I've not been keeping my eye on it as closely as I Used to. Probably a good thing, It was getting unhealthy

I thought IBM jointly developed the Cell along with Sony and someone else - think it was Toshiba.

So, they wanted to reduce manf. costs, leading to the 60Gb model being dropped, but they will also be bringing out a more expensive 80Gb model?

I assume it is cheaper today to get a 80gb laptop hdd than it was 1 year ago to get 60gb laptop hdd, on a simplistic level that would explain some of it.

Also when the 60gb got replaced with 40gb there were other cost savings that were made, which will now be in this rumoured 80gb version (ie the motherboard and some chips were changed moved around off top of my head, as well as the usb port, card reader, BC removal).

I personally do not see this new 80gb version coming out in the near future tbh.
