PS3 or XB360 ...

How many PS3's will be in homes in 2 years time? 10 M, 20M, 30M?

There will always be a fairly large customer base for Blueray disks.

This war isnt like the VHS vs Betamax war. No ones going to ditch their PS3. Shops can just stock both disks. HD-DVD may become more popular , but Blueray will never die out.

May be a tie and we'll start to see hybrid machines due to studios sticking to their format. I think LG are releasing the first hybrid in the summer, may be a sign of things to come.

In 2003, six years after introduction, there were over 250 million DVD playback devices worldwide, counting DVD players, DVD PCs, and DVD game consoles. This was more than half the numbers of VCRs, setting DVD up to become the new standard for video publishing.

dont think either format will ever rach these heights

anyone know what the current count is for dvd players?

I cant see Sony selling 115.36 million ps3's (115.36 million ps2's sold to date). But who knows if the price drops to the £200 level.

I have had to make this same decision not too long ago and decided to go for a PS3, if anything the poor build quality of the Xbox 360 is enough to put me off. I really think that the PS3 is a much more powerful console and is certainly more future proof than the 360. Give the games some time to be released, although there are still some great ones available at the moment.

same thoughts about the build quality. i was thinking that i might end up paying even more than £400 if it fails as i might buy a second x360 to keep me going.

I don't think the PS3 is more powerful but it is a better all in one solution. the free online gaming is great for me who doesn't want to pay fee for a limited period.

PS3 is not great on current multi-platform titles such as Spiderman, Pirates, etc

Seems to have choppy frame rate.

big loss there then, but seriously lets wait to see the second wave of multi platform titles when developers realise the architecture between the two machines is so different that native 360 code doesn't migrate well from a traditional multi core processor on to a stream based multi core set up with a dedicated memory pool for cpu and gpu compared to unified memory pool, so architecture difference and lazing coding are the issue rather than a lack of processing potential.

sloppy coding really cant blame that on the ps3 and we can only assume the situation will get better once dev's figure out the ps3 some more.

Unless the PS3 starts to sell, then its always going to have lazy ports...
