PS3 - Shocking failure rate.

I have quite poor DVD playback through PS3, it's definitely better on my 360. My 360 is also quite quiet when playing them.

However, I love Blu-Rays so that's a bonus :).

Hmmm, ok then. It was awful when I had the HD Drive, just ruined the film. I wish it was just mine but the girlfriends is the same, and all of my friends just result to their standard DVD players due to the sound of the 360.

Obviously we're all just picky.

Hopefully not I guess they tested it atleast to see if it reduces temps?

Or something, sure they didn't add it for no reason at all.

Even so if my current 360 (Unbanned one) lasts till warranty ends I'm gonna do some little modifications to help cooling.
The US one has similar failure rates to the cor/premium models.

I've played about 10 hours worth of PS3 games since I got it in May. :p

Mainly been GOW II and Tekken 5 DR.

LOL, funnily enough its about the same I played on my current 360 before it started overheating, locking up and throwing dirty disc errors at random. Tried the intercooler thing from Nyko which helped it run for about 30 minutes rather than 10 each time.

What do some of you people do to them though! I know 15 people that own 360s, one has failed.

Erm, sat on the shelf next my Wii, Xbox 1, SNES, Dreamcast all of which work flawlessly.
I know personally four people with a 360 (myself included) only one of them has not had a failure and his is used more than any of us added together by a HUGE margin.
So whats your point? :p

There isn't one really, just that this forum seems to have a disproportionate amount of failed 360s compared to my own experience :)

I'm yet to have a failed one but family and friends have, my sister is on her third since Xmas.

Not really mate, its just that people tend to come on and not post "My 360 worked fine today".
That's my take on it. I am not really bothered by it working/not working as I have many other machines to fall back on (plus the fact that I have opened my last two). I would just rather that MS admit the fault, get the defect sorted for all and then we can all move on and enjoy what is a damn fine console.

Same really, if they sort out that problem and make them all with the quieter drive (friend of mines is actually very quiet... the one that got a replacement!) then the two main issues with it will be resolved as well as saving MS a load of money and possibly meaning another price drop...

We can hope, eh :p

My PS3 is on at least 4-5 hours a day at the moment, although it has locked up twice when loading in Oblivion. Nothing to get excited about especially as my 360 locked up a hell of a lot more, sometimes 3-4 times in one evening :(

So Microsoft have no excuse for the failure rate of the X360, even if you disregard the PS3 figures (this bashing is getting old now) the Wii just confirms it.

I was running my ps3 24/7 in 35c heat and high humidity running folding @ home. A 360 would have...folded, in no time!

To think that F&H is the only thing that fully stresses the ps3, and they still think it will be possibe for a fanless ps3 in the futre.

I was watching a DVD on my PS3 last night just to compare the noise difference and after about 10 mins of playback my PS3 fans were actually louder than my 360.

Isn't that a sign of a fault? Should I take it back?

They should measure which of the 3 collect the most dust.

Mine collects dust despite playing it. Infact, I don't know what you're talking about :( :o

Mine has never been loud during a DVD, Blu-Ray. Always quiet.
