Joebob i think you seriuosly dont understand HOW the PS2 was so popular and why it always remained the NO.1 choice
Because it had such a huge brand following - many people consider both the Xbox and the Dreamcast as better systems but in the end brand awareness won through.

How did Sony come to knock off Nintendo and Sega?
Its not about oh they were best they will always continue to be best.
The market was completely different back then and quite honestly it was just waiting for a company to come along and take advantage of Sega and Nintendos fixed marketing.

Companes make bad decisions from time to time and the industry as a whole sees the PS3 pricepoint as a major concern. Blu Ray was not needed for gaming purposes and its a gamble Sony have taken. Sony may of been wiser with a DVD model and games on DVD to keep in line with a X360 price point and if they wanted also launched a Blu Ray capable player/entertainment console version.
I know companies make bad decisions and Sony has made some blunders I admit, but I truly beleive they have such a prominent brand that they will pull it back. I'm not saying this because I have a PS3 and want to justify my purchase but it's because it's what I actually beleive - this is what annoys me, you seem to think that I'm making stuff up and that I'm secretly dissapointed with my purchase when I'm anything but.[/quote]

Dont you see the lead the X360 has and its position is exactly the reverse of what the PS2 Xbox position was.
Yes I do see and I think it's a good thing. It will even up the market and increase competition, they could have done with more competition with the PS2 tbh. People on here seem to think that this is going to finish Sony off, when at worst I see MS and Sony having something like an even market share.

Pricepoint with a possible 50% price difference (This is a massive price difference)
It is a big price difference, but I think people will perceive the PS3 as being newer technology as it's the latest console out - also the high price will capatalise on the people who always buy the latest console at launch. Launch price has always been higher - the PS2 was about £300 and people paid it, so surely 7 years on £425 isn't that much higher with inflation considered! If the premium units don't shift in Europe then surely Sony will release the 20Gb version as well.

You cant turn round and show me a list of games that points out to make the PS3 a better option. Any of the big Franchises like GT5 and MGS dont even have confirmed release dates. Sony doesnt as yet have a range of games that show the X360 up as an inferior system.
Were there any games on the PS1 which showed it up as being superior to the N64? or the PS2 against the Xbox? In both instances I beleive that Sony had the poorer system. Maybe the PS3 will be shown up as being the poorer system again, it's difficult to compare as they are quite close performance wise but time will tell. Also I think the majority of people like playing their old favourites like FIFA, PES, PGA, GTA etc (this is where EA have capatilised) which will be out for both systems. Sure there are people who will buy a console for exclusives but it's no where near the percentage which you think.

PS3 has to win on its own merits and available games and services, not because PS2 was the console of the last generation.
Why does it need to win on it's own merits - Is that why a huge amount of people held out for the PS2 rather than buying a Dreamcast? Theres a lot to be said for the buying power of the masses plus there's over 250 games either in progress or on the drawing board so it will certainly have it's share of the games shelves too.

But it isn't though is it - it's the same people who where here the last time around. It's not like everybody who ever owned either an Xbox or PS2 has died and we have a fresh shipment of gameplayers who have just arrived. Everyone has their own preferences, but the amount of people who I have spoke to who are holding out for a PS3 before they are willing to participate in next gen gaming is remarkable - at least as many as were holding out for the PS2.
