PS3 to blame for Modern Warfare 2 hacks - Infinity Ward...

Does this mean PS3 save games are now 'editable' -as im sure they used to be impossible to edit?

If so, for a Sports geek like me who loves people who make editors/stat generators for NFL,NHL,MLB,NBA etc... this could be great news.

I mean OK online gaming is ruined to an extent if there is little support... but if I can use an editor on the PC to customise my 'sports' game and then re-import that back into the PS3... then BOOM :D

Same for getting box scores, stats etc out of a game... no more tediously writing them down or screenshots....

Good explanation, a cookie for the baiter.

Again absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with piracy.

Somebody needs to chill out. My feeling on this matter is, modifications of gaming code, operating system coding, piracy are all related topics. This thread originally had a tone of this hacking has come around due to the key theft. This appears not to be the case now. Which is fair enough. But seriously why so serious?

Cracking != Piracy

The game is not cracked in any way!! the Dvars have been altered to give the player an advantage.

The funny thing about all these posts about piracy is that they are missing one simple thing MW2 is not available on a JB console, it does not work with a JB console, only the original factory pressed version works. oh another thing for the missguided folk here to get one of these lobbies up and running you had to break the JB on your PS3 by updating to 3.55 meaning that by hosting you were actually losing the ability to play "pirated" software anyway.................. So what leads to piracy?...............

So please stop with all the modded lobbies = piracy talk it is just ****** me off when clearly you have no idea what you are talking about and base your arguments on that.

This thread is a waste of time along with the article which is so off track its pure comedy genius and a great little snippet to get the haters out in force.

/END:D

The one thing that confuses me is that, the homebrew people can hack modify FW to do a whole host of things on the PS3. Could they use old cpu's, mb and other cheap old hardware. Why buy a ps3 when it would be cheaper to use old parts?

IMO hacking consoles is akin to iran getting nuclear tech. They say its for civil use but deep down its for weapons.
Still its an intresting debate all this hacking/modifing talk

This ability has been around before the PS3 was modded. There are forums full of custom rosters for PS3/X360.

I can’t stand COD games, but with all this going on I hope they keep making them to draw the hacking retards away from Battlefield.
If hackers screw up Battlefield 3, I’ll be absolutely gutted.

EA seems to support their stuff slightly better. They're not perfect, but even BF2 has had less hackers over the many years its existed than CoD.

I was on MW2 the other day on free-for-all. It's quite bad, I'd say about half the games I joined were hacked. Some games you could jump about 200ft in the air so you could clear any building. Some games had someone perched as high as an aeroplane just shooting down at the map and killing everyone. One game had a strange zoomed in FOV. Loads of things. Sometimes on the kill-cam, you could see the hacking menu.

I play S&D and hardly ever see this, and if I do I just quit and join another. No problems.

I did however stay in one game with a hacker and he actually gave everyone in the lobby admin power which was a bit of a laugh. Ended up crashing the game after a while though. :o

But yeah, still thousands playing it, and still a more enjoyable game than Black Ops in my opinion.

do people even still play MW2

Right now, there are 144,744 players online (PS3).

EDIT: 2000 BHP Corsas anyone? :D

personally, sony should have a 'killswitch' in the PS3 and make it part of the terms and conditions, so they have the right to physically disable your PS3 (remotely of course) if modified code is detected, turn it into a nice, shiny paper weight. hackers are literally the scum of the gaming world that ruin thing for everyone, people moan endlessly on the PC games forum about intrusive DRM, but can you blame companies for DRM, the games are their business, hackers are damaging the gaming industry. so sony should just ban them all, every single person who hacks should be perma-banned from PSN, should get them with a hefty fine as well, surely its illegal to hack, punish them!

i don't quite understand why people are doing this? can only assume that hackers get some sort of kick from screwing things up for people, 'look at me, i can insta-headshot you on MW2 because im a cheating scumbag who uses aimbot, im class me...!' sorry don't see the appeal...! :D
