Samsung SM2233BW Cream 22" Widescreen

I'm using a HDMI to DVI connector, when i'm in the middle of playing this message flashes up.

'Not optimum mode, recommended mode 1680x1040'

And it just goes blank.

Ideas?

Sounds to me like your PS3s resolution is possibly up too high. Switch your PS3 off, then switch it on but hold the power button down until you hear an extra beep.

This resets your PS3 display settings to default and should hopefully work.

Connected the PS3 to my mates monitor which is a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW and the PS3 works fine no issues.

I've heard something about HDCP and I know my monitor doesn't have this, could this be the issue?

I've tried resetting the PS3 and different resolutions none of them work, aswell as 576p and still the same problem.

**Bare in mind I AM getting an image for a small period of time so surely it's supported?

Hmmm, first thing i thought was HDCP but a google search led me to believe it had it.

If it doesn't have HDCP, it won't work sadly. You could buy something like a HDFury adapter but they ain't cheap.

Why am I getting a picture for a split second then?

God knows tbh, but basically without HDCP getting a (constant) picture through HDMI/DVI on the PS3 is impossible without a HDFury adapter. Could try an unofficial VGA cable possibly? Though having no experience with them i can't comment on how good they are.

[EDIT] On the split second picture issue, i'm not an expert but when you connect to something that requires HDCP, the HDCP device sends something called a 'handshake' that must be replied to before the picture will display. Maybe the image data is being sent for a split second then the handshake times out and it disables the output.

Cheers for your help bud.

That is exactly what is happening, when your PS3 is handshaking with your monitor it is displaying for a split second before it is acknowledging that your monitor is not HDCP compatible.

Like Streeteh said the best way to get your PS3 working on your monitor is to get a HDFury. Although they aren't cheap they are certainly better than a lot of the alternative methods, for example trying to convert a component signal to VGA.
