PS3 vs 360 graphics

Wrong its a great console with a great price, great games and great online service and thats what peopleare buying/bought it for...

Sure it offers more if you want or need that from it with "region free" superior HD DVD movies... So effectively still cheaper than PS3 if somone wants HD video playback features :D

Sorry - HD DVD movies, where are these then? I thought it only had a 12 x DVD player as standard!!! If you're talking about a possible add-on further down the line then that doesnt really count does it. We are talking about what the machines have now.

Yeah perhaps a new thread would be needed, the graphics has been covered, its pretty fair to sya both machines will continue to have simulary good looking games, this though is down as much to individual studios abilities as it is the technical abilities of each console.

Thanks all for the interesting topics...

damn thought you had finished...

Yes it does count cos if i was looking to buy a console i could get a X360 and HD DVD drive if i wanted Hi Defination movies, like earlier as i said you arnt forced into buying it. I think you will find for your comparison the HD DVD drive will easily be available come PS3 launch.

As for movies you will find them in you local **V or other siimular stores.
Many prefer to import USA titles as thier is approx 200 available already and can be a lot cheaper with earlier release dates. Unlike Blu Ray it does not have Regional coding and thus far many HD DVD titles are better than the Blu Ray versions.

OMG that kinda sounds lika an advantage over Blu Ray

Anything else?

Err the machines both now have HD functionality.. infact the optional choice for the 360 i would say is a bigger advantage than having it included..

He has openly admitted he is a sony fanboy so if it's a sensible discussion you're after then i would give up now.

If I'm honest with you, being that I have two little ones running around, I really can't afford any consoles at the moment, I feel privalaged have owned all three of the next gens and play them all in the comfort of my own home on launch day (except for the X360, which i only recently got) I was lucky enough to get my hands on some decent pre-orders and with a bit of ebaying, I've literally paid for my gaming needs for the next 5 yrs ! and made the wife happy too ! I did actually have a Wii, but had to go though, can't have all three.

I do not want a console purely based on looks or sounds. There are all the other factors as well. But you can't deny it does make a difference to the overall enjoyment of ownership.

I dont think it makes a blind bit of difference to the enjoyment of ownership, no console has ever been particularly cool looking.

At the moment i dont think theres any argument that the 360 is the best console around just now based on the games available, from what developers have said, theres no difference in the power between the consoles.

I was really looking forward to the ps3, but im starting to wonder if theres any point now, it would be bought for Grand Turismo and Metal Gear Solid, its an awful lot of money to play a couple of games when the 360 is currently doing 3rd party games a whole lot better.

Funny, I remember similar statements about the dreamcast! That had a head start too.

Microsoft as a company is much much more powerful than what Sega were when they released the Dreamcast, hence why Sony have a completely different fight on their hands.

You can't judge by those shots, not when brightness/contrast etc... are different.

I saw that need for speed game running on both 360, and PS3 side by side on CLICK one night, looked identical, brightness etc... was the same.

you all seem to forgot one thing

Brain washing

Simply put there is a whole generation of kids who know nothing else apart from the Playstation Brand and who wouldn't dream of touching a rival console just because it says Playstation on it. Its a shame that this is the case but you got to admit it is true even if the console they are going to buy isn't really any better and costs more, to them its the best thing since sliced bread and worth every penny, and you'll never change their minds because anybody that diss's Playstation isn't normal, lol

Some of you need to get some taste! None of the consoles look particularly stunning, but the order in terms of looks is:

1. Wii
2. 360
3. PS3

The PS3 looks like a bodge job.

And there's a whole lot of kids who don't have 425 quid to spend on a games console.

Add a couple of games and your over £500 makes it not worth the money.
More so when you look around the stores and you can get a 360 and 3 or 4 games for £300.
Kids want to play games not watch movies on a blueray drive.

The same with a lot of parents, hence why the 360 is currently being snapped up due to the great packages on offer!!

If by Xmas 2007 the PS3 is at about £300-£350 then Sony might be able to grab hold of parents but until that happens Wii & 360 will be winners.

You got me there, I do admit to being a Sony fanboy as in I admire the company fo what they did for the video games market.

I have already made this point on another thread, but i'm not going to retype it all:-

Maybe it's because of my age that I don't really like Microsoft! Whilst Windows has been pretty decent since 2000 I have had to put up with years and years of buggy software which crashed a hell of a lot from one of the biggest companies on the planet!!! I just don't really like them as a company.

I am a Sony fanboy when it comes to games consoles because they changed the games console market with the original Playstation. Before then games were all cartridge based, being sold at £60 a pop (this is of course pre-1994, so it's probably the equivalent of paying over £100 per game now) and generally considered to be just for kids, before Sony came into the market. Also both Sega and Nintendo would only allow licenced software houses to produce games for their machines and there was certainly an element of price fixing and the old 'you scratch my back and I will scratch yours' from Sega and Nintendo.

Thank god Nintendo commissioned Sony to make the CD player add on for the SNES.

Doesn't mean I'm not allowed to put my tuppence worth in on this debate though ;)

OK so you don't think having an annoying whooshing sound EVERY time you play a DVD game, detracts from the overall enjoyment? Well I beg to differ. Believe you me any game that is cross platform I will always go for the PS3 version for this very reason. Actually once the PS3 is fully up and running, the 360 may even end up gathering dust. Which is a shame as it's on par with the PS3 graphically.

Add up the cost of a 360 What do you get?

£275 for the premium machine
£140 for the HD Player

Thats £415

PS3 will be £450ish? When released?

Is the price difference really so different that the 360 owners can put down the PS3 prices?

Because every 360 owner wants an HD-DVD player?

yes it is becuase with the 360 you are not forced into paying the extra for HD-DVD etc, if you just want to play games (like most people do) and you are not loaded up to the hilt then thankfully microsft have given you an option to get your hands on a next gen console for the measly sum of £199.
