Hi Folks

I have a new PAL PS3 coming on Tuesday :D and I have been wondering how easy it is to get the PS3 to connect to a Wi-Fi router using the PS3's built Wi-Fi unit. I have been hearing that it's not as easy as it is to set up as the Xbox 360. Which was dead easy.

it couldn't be much easier, select wireless networkk mode, it searches and shows available networks, choose yours then enter any security key if u have one set and thats it!

I personally found the PS3 the easiest of all of them to set-up. That means I found it easier than the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox360 and my PC.

It was an absolute joy.

Cheers for that :)

Thats good to hear. I wasn't looking forward to it at all.

Yeha, I heard it was awkward so I was hesitant (especially with BT's appalling router) but it was the easiest set-up I have ever run through, so I don't know where that rumour came from.

it honestly couldnt be simpler

it searched for broadcast SSIDs, found my router, prompted me what type of key it was using, told the PS3 it was WPA-PSK and entered the key

connected

i think some people have routers that dont like consoles though, one person on here couldnt get it to work, but then he couldnt get his 360 working first time either

It's pretty amazing stuff actually, I just went on to network settings, and simply picked 'wireless mode'. It picked up my router and that was that. :D

How strong is the signal, you dont get random disconnects in games do you? and is 4mb broadband enough?

you'll find a lot of guys on cable are using a linksys of some description. ive got a 54g and its fine with both my ps3 and wii (had to change to channel 11 for the wii). very easy to set up:)

my Speedtouch ADSL router was downstairs in the lounge

through the floor upstairs in the bedroom the PS3 was reporting 98% signal strength

for some reason my ps3 wireless works miles better than my pc :(

when i play css using wireless i get tonnes of big lag spikes with the belkin wireless card and router but the ps3 online seems smooth as can be

maybe theyre sending data differently or something but im just relieved i didnt have to Ethernet cable the ps3 to the router like i do with my pc

got itw orking nice and cushty, i really need to get the signal strenghth better though. Any ideas on how?

Signal Strength is just that, how strong the signal is. To increase it you'll either need to move your PS3 closer to your router or vice-versa.

It's pips man, if you own a PSP it's just the same :)
Did it in less than 1 minute. If you really feel that you are going to struggle, read through your PS3 manual thoroughly.
