PS4 dev kits use AMD A10 derivative

I agree

I would rather watch tv than play on an a10.

well im not so sure about that :D:D:D

I meant the AMD A10 couldn't do it.

That is barely any better than the ones that came out in 2005 and can only do 20fps 720p.

What will the new one achieve? 1080p 25fps

but trying to be more serious, one thing to remember is that once the hardware is locked for a console it is normally possible to squeeze much more out of it than you can for the equivalent PC as with a console you are just coding for that one set of fixed hardware not the many varieties that you get with a PC.

The consoles are already 7 years behind pc and instead of doing something about it to close the gap they are using bottom end graphics that's 3 years out of date.

I think the console fans boys are going to be getting seriously ripped off if they are paying for a next gen graphics and end up with a 6670.

Could you kindly explain to me how them using an APU that has only been for sale for a couple of months works out to be 3 years out of date?

quick read of thread tells me that he means teh apu is about 6670 speeds graphics wise.. which has been out 3 years

AMD 6670 launched APR 19 2011

AMD A10 APU including 7660 GPU launched OCT 2 2012

So I'll ask again just how does that make it 3 years out of date?

The 6670 has 480/24/8 shaders the 7660 has 384/24/?

And you cant get away from the fact that the A10 only launched a couple of months ago. I'm not arguing the fact that it would be nice if the new PS4 was quicker, I'm just saying it is not 3 years out of date.

The A10 has 6670 graphics which is a bottom end card from 2010

The ps4 is due for release 2014

ok hes abit right .. by the tiem the ps3 coems out the cards will have been out at leas 2 years going the april date ......and if you take it back to the dev cycle of teh card its prob 3 years at least

it was actully released apr 2011 .but with teh dev cycle it was 2010

Yes bottom end card 3 years out of date and a few places have confirmed same card for xbox 720p which is sad because I don't think I will see the step up in graphics on pc that I was hoping for.

Surely if your going to include the development cycle that means the ps4 has around for a couple of years at least, or do you think that Sony have only just thought about a ps3 replacement.

Well, the performance is out of date that's for sure.
Given the 6670 is still only around 9800GT level overall IIRC.
IIRC, the 7660D in the A10 isn't 6670 performance, at least not with standard DDR3 1600MHZ RAM.

It gets beaten by the GT640, which is like 9800GT performance.

I don't think anyone has confirmed the PS4 will ship with an A10 APU as we know it have they? There's every possibility that AMD will graft a few modules onto a much bigger GPU core. Launch consoles don't need to be profitable, they make money from licensing. Simplifying/shrinking the hardware later in it's life cycle makes up quite a bit of the difference too

You can call the A10 a 2012 graphics if you want but that doesn't stop the fact that it sucks and there was better graphics out years ago.

I really hope they put more in the next gen than this :(

Yeah, I was only speaking relative to the desktop A10.
Things could turn out differently, but I'm sceptical.

At least with the supposed 2012 Wii-U launch the next generation will start.

While most people here seem disappointed the A10 sounds like a great upgrade offering 5X more CPU power and 5-10X Graphics performance. While it would be good to go to fast kit out there the cost and heat they produce would be impractical. I'm also quite impressed if they go ahead with 16gb Ram and a 256gb SSD which will offer massive improvements on the current specs.
