Do these exist without a monthly fee?

I've got ESO which is about as fun as pulling teeth. I played the living hell out of WoW and want something similar-ish on the PS4, so with quests and stuff and the ability to team up. I've done Destiny to death and am looking for something new.

FF XIV looks fantastic but as we play as a group, I don't want to split the group in to can affords and can't affords.

Must be an RPG-ish game, so no Planetside or anything.

Any ideas?

Ive not found anything remotely close to wow on a console, Ive not tried FF but always wanted to.
Have you looked at DC Universe? Ive tried it a little but like ESO, I just didnt click with it but if youre playing it with some buddies it could be better. Its free too, so no proper reason to not try it, its just a huge download :D
Maybe Borderlands 2 as well but its more coop with quests and leveling up etc, still great fun in a group.

If you do find anything though, make sure you report back as im still searching!

Nice to see I'm not the only one in this boat then :D

I might take a gamble on FFXIV and see what it's like. I can make new friends :p

Ff14 is absolutely amazing. There is so much content, runs smoothly and great fun with mates. I would completely recommend. One of first games I picked up on ps4.

The controls do take time getting use to but after a while you realise they are actually quite intuitive

neverwinter has been out for a week on Ps4 on early access, and is out today for everyone else , you don't need ps plus to play either.

Thanks for the heads up on Never winter :)

It should be downloaded ready for some time tonight. Can't wait to get home and give it a go.

Runs sweet as a nut for me

The odd spike here or there but nothing game breaking. It's a great game, I got to level 11 tonight. The combat is good although the direction you face is governed by moving a joystick all the way around. If you want to turn around 180deg, you can't just move the joystick to the other side, you have to "walk" around. It's no biggie but it is noticeable. It's not open world from what I can tell. I may not have discovered it yet but so far it's not like WoW where you can simply run in to a level much higher than you (anyone who's crossed Elwynn Forest in to Dusk wood will know what I mean), but rather you progress through the areas which go up in level as you do. I would've preferred proper open world but I can't complain.

The controls are well mapped and the game guides you slowly in to learning them but I need to do some research on how to master them. The abilities are great, I'm a tank, a warrior thingy which is cool. No healing abilities but health potions drop from almost everything so it's no problem. There is crafting although I haven't tried it yet. There is also an in-game economy with auction houses and stuff but again I havent ventured in to that yet. Contrary to ESO, there are actually other players all over the world so it feels busy and full of life. I must say the game is very forgiving at these early stages, perhaps a bit too much so. I can take on groups of 6 bad guys all a level above me and just cleave them to death. Pop a health potion afterwards and you're good to go. The quests are standard MMORPG stuff, "collect 5 of these", "kill 10 of those" but it's a familiar feeling and exactly what I wanted.

I'll write up more as I go but for a free to play game my initial impressions are that this is a very solid title.

It runs like a dog, crazy lag on spells, mobs etc.

STO is coming in the next month or so.
no problems for me ,maybe give it another shot your problems may have cleared up with a bit of luck , if anyone interested im in a guild called syndicate , so if your going to play and need a home its a no drama guild, in game names rudeness and uk_five hit me up .

Downloaded this today and rank 21, really enjoying it.

I haven't had a problems either, the framerate plummets at the Protectors Enclave but think that's because there's loads of people running around.

One issue with rubber banding but it sorted its self out within a couple of seconds.
Bit Destiny'd out at the moment so this is filling in the void.

Would recommend it to anybody that's a fan of the genre. :)

Got up to level 16 last night, still enjoying it but I do wish it was properly open world rather than loads of instances. This also leads me to my next point which is a drawback for me and will sound absolutely ridiculous, but I miss the "peace" you had in WoW. I used to enjoy just exploring and gathering crafting materials, chilling out and enjoying the open world but here everything is hostile all the time. It's no biggie and if I wanted it that bad I could always go back to WoW but it would've been nice.

I did a few skirmishes which were ok, might hop in to a dungeon tonight but I need to learn how to tank properly as it's very different to what I'm used to. I couldn't hold aggro for bananas last night so that definitely needs to be worked on.

I agree about the hostile thing, It would be nice in some places where you could just gather materials without fighting all the time.
I just go on my mount and run passed most of them, but even then you can still get knocked off.

Level 24 now and done the Crypt dungeon. Pretty good gotta be fair, took about an hour to do.

Started playing Neverwinter last night and must say it was a pretty decent experience.

Only up to level 4 but that is mainly down to the fact I spent way too long creating my character.... Paladin (Sword & Shield) with red hair and Pigtails.... :p

Controls will take some getting used to (mainly simple things like jump and inventory opening) but overall I came away suitably impressed (I should note I went into it having absolutely no idea what to expect).

I also play ES:O from time to time but have to be in the mood.

Having played both Neverwinter and ESO for many many hours on the PC versions ESO is by far the better game in my opinion.

I can't stop playing it lol level 34 now.

I just keep telling myself "one more quest" then 3 hours go by lol.
Haven't play ES:O so can't compare.

I got bored of it. I don't know what it is abotu the game but something's just not clicking for me. I *think* it's the instancing fact, and that I don't feel my character getting stronger. I got up to level 17 and haven't logged on since. In WoW, I could feel my character getting stronger. I could go in to an area, get my arse handed to me, and come back later on and destroy everything, whereas here everything's of similar level so it's always the same. That and the lack of a proper open world, which is a big thing for me.

Oh and don't even get me started on the PVP, what a load of rubbish. Played a load of games of Domination which are 5v5 and if there are 10 kills in a match it's a lot. It's awful.

I find that the game likes to push you on to the next part of the world as quick as possible and doesn't encourage you to stay. I just do everything there is to do then move on.
I'm probably about a level or 2 above which is required on the next part.

Granted I'm not enjoying it as much as I was before but found some fun in making money (Astral diamonds) at the auction house lol.
Agree though wish it was more open world and if I wandered into am area that was to high for me well that'll be my fault.

I see how I go over the next few days.

Up to level 26 now and still enjoying it. :)

Fought my first Dragon which was interesting.....

A group of about 20 of us with battle music and so many buffs / de-buffs that it filled up the entire screen.. :D

Cycled between using my shield to buff everyone and my attacks to blind and de-buff the enemy.

Not a had fight but damn the PS4 was hating it! Mind you at least the frame rate held up better than then main social hub

Whilst the game is no where near perfect I am still genuinely surprised it is completely free to play and actually enjoy. Yes you can "Pay to Win" but so far I have played for about 15 or so hours and not paid a penny.

Was that Charterix or something? Had fun fighting him, gotta do it once more for the campaign.

Level 46 now and fought another dragon, Can't remember his name something the vile lol but that was a fun battle.
Yeah the protectors enclave chugs, also on a few occasions Its locked up and had to restart.

Don't know if you're at Helms Hold yet but watch out there's a bug, If you log out the game there you will get stuck on the loading screen when logging back in, the work around is make another character, Finish the tutorial and get to the enclave then switch characters back.
Developers are aware of it and working on a fix.
Happened to me a few times.
