I'm thinking of swapping my 1000 for a newer model as it's having power switc issues and I'm coming to the conclusion that the screen ghosting is unbearable.

I only use UMD games (and legit games on a memory stick) and don't want to do naughty emulation etc stuff, so really I'm only interested in the screen quality and build quality.

Given no one is browsing the web on a psp in 2022 (or even 2008 tbh!) The lack of WiFi etc on the e1000 is not an issue and infact I'm leaning towards that model.

But I think the 2003 has the best overall screen according to the Eurogamer review?

Also what is the e1000 build quality like as it was a budget release. I know the battery isn't easily replaceable but I don't mind opening it up once to do a swap if needed.

Price wise the e1000 seems to be cheapest

I've got a 2003 model, it was definitely my favourite of the PSP consoles. Got to be careful of bulging batteries though, seems to be very common. I recently disposed of two.

Had a quick look on Taobao, and can get a battery pack for quite cheap for my old 1000 model. Doesn't look too bad to install either.
No real need for me to do it, but... Pointless modifications, hmm, I do like them. :D

In the end I went with a 2003 because I read conflicting reports over which has a better screen but either are much improved over the 1003 model, which is definitely true. It is also, unsurprisingly, much slimmer and lighter than the 1003 which is also nice. I'm enjoying some THUG2 and Worms in the evenings.

The ghosting on the 1000 series screen is bad - I use a 2000 series now and the screen is much sharper, although still not amazing or bright by today's standards. If I was using it a lot, I would probably get an upgraded IPS screen, but I don't enough.

Any original PSP battery is probably bad by now as well, so just be careful when choosing a new one as many 'cheap' ones are not what they seem.

Is there a way to get your digital games onto the psp these days? Mine is offline and the WiFi security is too old to "understand" my router's security protocol.

I remember being able to do something via PS3? Or is there a way I can install the game legally from my PC onto the memory card?

You can download onto a PS3 and install that way. The games will be in the download history.

Could anybody here please help with my psp issue if possible :)

Sorry to highjack thread

I just went to get my PSP-1000 out of the drawer it has been living in, undisturbed for the last nine years or so, only to find it has spontaneously developed a crack on the top of the screen! Gutted, It's as if the poor thing has tried to take its own life after being left alone all this time. The poor bugger.

Is the crack just on the outer shell, or is it the actual LCD?
It looks like it is in the outer shell. I know you can get knock off replacement shells, but I can guess they will be horribly naff in terms of quality and feel. It will probably be another 9 years before it gets handled again anyway  God knows how it happened though. There are actually two cracks, the other one is about 7mm to the left of this one. Both seem to start from the back long case edge and come to the front, the shorter one not going beyond the front dimples. May just be visible in the photo, about 4 dimples down from where the obvious crack is.

Was going to say there are some ips options on the psp. I personally just popped an ips in my 1000 and that was a massive improvement. Great little console the psp.
