** PSU GUIDE BY GIBBO/8PACK TO TRY AND PREVENT COIL WHINE!! **

yes whats the point of a psu thread and showing quality ones then stick something so bad in it

To prove that ratings are absolutely meaningless, it is marketed as an 80+ Gold unit, whereas in reality it is absolute and utter junk.

It would probably explode if you tried to run anything higher than a 750 on it and we'd not recommend it then.

Before you flame us you might want to read the product description and read what I posted very clearly about it being absolute rubbish.

The point is just because a PSU might be 80+ Gold does not mean it is good quality, that is our point.

thing is people still associate products with ocuk. whether you state its bad or not.

some clown will not even read that and still buy it. why ? because ocuk is selling it.

i personally feel you shouldn't even stock garbage like that but thats up to you.

We have customers who want that garbage though unfortunately and request it, we give our recommendations but the final decision is always with the customer. We do not recommend it and would always suggest otherwise, but we have customers who buy such power supplies in their hundreds. As I suppose for an office PC they do the job fine it is just something we'd never build a system with or recommend.

I personally wouldn't stock it either.

The potential for all the returns, complaints, awkward customers demanding compensation for busted components, bad reputation generated by these people when the don't get what they want, and so on, should surely be enough of a reason to not even bother? :p

I might use one to power my old Pentium 4 + 2GB DDR + ATI 9550 PC, but even then I'd be hesitant. :p

Good stuff. I wouldn't recommend the EVGA G1 series though, not Superflower and the G2 is right down there price wise mostly anyway.

you wont change their mind. they are a business at the end of the day, and are catering to their customers needs...well, 'wants'.

Same argument way back when, when they were selling those ghastly q-tec psus.

Is simple though.

Hi OcUK

We want to buy the components to build 1000 systems from you, we want this CPU, motherboard, PSU, RAM, you need to supply all parts or we go elsewhere.

The kind of customers who want such power supplies are using them in very basic PC's without discreet graphics for which they are fine, these orders generate us £100,000's in revenue each year and the returns are fine, infact typically none come back simply because the PSU never exceeds like 200W as such computers spend their day in outlook, MS word or excel.

Were here to meet all our customers needs, not just the forums. :)

The difference is when we get a customer who is like Hi OcUK I want to build a gaming PC with a 970 and use this power supply. It is at that point we refuse to supply the PSU as we know it will not work and refuse to sell the items unless they buy a PSU we are happy to recommend.

At least OcUK give you a choice, my local computer store only stocks cheap PSUs, when I was in there a few years ago I asked them why they didn't stock good brand ones and was told good brand PSUs were like good brand clothes, you're just paying for the name, he then went on to tell me his cheap 1000w unit was the best he'd ever owned. I feel sorry for people who spend money on a full system there with those power supplies.

I remember when Superflower were the Matsui of the PSU world...I bought a 450w one about 10 years ago when I was naive enough to think that big wattage at a low low price was a good thing (450w being more than ample in them days). Imagine my joy at it going pop and taking out my motherboard and raid 0 setup. Imagine my surprise to find them resurface years later as a premium brand.

How times change eh

they do, as do companies in general. I doubt OCUK would be seen dead selling some of the stuff they did under previous management / ownership.

I can see exactly why they've done this as I too would get sick to the back teeth of people returning perfectly working GPU.

Hi there

OcUK has taken moves to try and completely eliminate any kind of coilwhine by designing cards which incorporate coil whine reduction technologies on the 970 series.

Here are both those cards designed by myself and exclusively available from OcUK and www.caseking.de

This very special NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 is the only one of its kind designed by our in-house VGA Guru Gibbo making this the worlds ONLY genuine reference 970 available in the world. Gibbo's design request were very specific, genuine NVIDIA 970 cooler, yes the crazy expensive one just like the 980 cooler and a NVIDIA BGA Board using all original NVIDIA components with absolute zero cost down in the design.

Infact Gibbo improved the design by changing the containers in which the inductors are located for better quality items to help reduce and eliminate any possibility of coil whine. We also instruct our factory to only build these cards with Samsung memory. So why buy this over any other 970, well it is most likely the quietest whilst under load (gaming) due to having the NVIDIA cooler and any chances of coil whine have being pretty much eliminated with the design changes Gibbo has had implemented.

So this card is ideal for those seeking as little noise as possible and the other major advantage is the NVIDIA cooler which offers much better cooling performance in smaller enclosures or when running in 2-way or 3-way SLI.

Finally of course this card is perfect for when Half Life 3 is finally released at some point in the future and of course the latest GTA V game which is now confirmed!

The GTX 980 is the worlds fastest GPU and the GTX 970 offers the most advanced performance in its class. Each delivers 2x the performance of previous-generation card, bringing new gaming experiences to virtual reality, and ultra resolution 4k displays.

Enable the detail of 4k monitors, on a 1080P display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a high resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering.

GeForce GTX 980 and 970 cards support tear-free, super-fast NVIDIA G-Sync monitor display technology including 4k. Together, these technologies provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experiences possible.

GALAX GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent "Infinity Black Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **WorldWide Exclusive** @ £299.99 inc VAT

GX-010-GX_400.jpg

Since Overclockers UK introduced our Infinity system range, demand for high performance zero compromise systems has exploded. Our Infinity brand represents performance hardware coupled with a unique and stylish aesthetic.

Since the release of high end Maxwell architecture, the hardware game has changed. The new GeForce cards offer revolutionary new technologies and class leading performance alongside low operating temperatures and impressive power consumption.

The GALAX GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent "Infinity Black Edition" is a collaboration of one of the largest Nvidia board partners worldwide, Overclockers UK Graphics Specialist: Andrew Gibson and Overclockers UK Technical Specialist & Overclocking World Champion, Ian ‘8Pack’ Parry.

Originally the Galax 970 EX OC Black Edition was intended as a high performance option for customers looking for the ultimate gaming experience with class leading performance. Our close partnership with Galax allowed us to specify a list of important modifications that would make the GALAX GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent "Infinity Black Edition" a real show stopper.

Primarily, to fit the Infinity aesthetic, we demanded that the external design of our Black Edition card was sleek and stealthy. Adding to the already imposing look of the Galax design, this new, aggressive appearance really highlights the intent behind this product.

Additionally to the colour change, we included a nickel plated I/O plate, heatsink and heatpipes to compliment the premium nature of the product. The already impressive backplate on the card has been accented with a stylish "Infinity: Inspired by 8 Pack" decal.
The imposing looks of the card would be nothing without the ‘go’ to back up all the show.

Building on the already impressive performance of the GTX 970 platform, world class overclocking expertise from 8Pack has been implemented to fine tune the BIOS of this card to achieve maximum safe, reliable performance from the GTX 970.

As an industry leading gaming and high end hardware specialist, Overclockers UK understands the importance of offering a product that meets a customer’s expectation. A major worry for any enthusiast is operational noise under load. We have used this knowledge to reduce coil whine by using higher quality components and also using glue to attach the inductors to the PCB to help reduce electrical vibrations which help reduce whine.

This collaboration with Galax has allowed us to build what we believe to be the finest example of a GTX 970 on the market today.

This product is exclusively available from Overclockers UK and Caseking group throughout UK and Europe. We suggest European customers visit www.caseking.de to purchase this card in Western Europe and Eastern European customers purchase from http://www.kellytech.hu/

The first card is built using no cost down methods whatsoever and is why it is built on a 980 PCB which is way beyond what a 970 required and we had the inductors placed in higher quality containers to keep any noise to a minimum and then had insulating pads between the inductors and genuine NVIDIA cooler.

The second card was built again using highest possible quality inductors and containers, but we then also had them attached to the PCB using glue which can be very clearly seen as the glue used is red.

These steps help to reduce and eliminate coilwhine completely! :)

Ahaa gibbo but which card is your favorite out of the two and whats the best card to go with and ive got a corsair cx750m psu ?

It is a tough choice to be honest, as both cards have being designed to be aesthetically rather stunning and with low noise in mind.

Your PSU is not one of my favourites to be honest, but it should be fine with these cards.
