thanks for the extreme outervision link for calculating wattage requirement. As it happens main pc died (suspect its the psu) so about to RIP it out and whack the one from here in it, hopefully it is powerful enough and has all the relevant leads... it is 6 years old :/

Yeah but 6950's in crossfire shouldn't take up that much, plus that PSU is quiet. Yes he does have a large budget but still an option.

sorry another small question, is the antec 620 cpu water cooler anybetter than a air cooled one? like http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD&tool=3or is it best to stick to the antec 620?

Those two are about the same really, the advantage of the water cooler is you can have tall RAM and it leaves the inside of the PC a lot more "open" when you dont have a chunk of metal in there.
