PSU - is this a good one? :)

it is a single card. in so far as its a card, which is single.

regardless, a 750w psu is not an extravagant expense. its what i would consider a sweet spot to be honest.

+1, l put a HX850 in my build 4 years ago, no matter what l put in at that time with in it will be ok, sli. xfire, water cooling and have no worries.

Your PSU is your No1 component for running x amount of components, stabile voltage's, overclocking, my next build will be at least a 1000w.

hah!

then look at the gtx 480. in that link above, it practically uses the same juice! ;)

UGHGHGGHHHHHHHHHRRRAAAHAHAH!

Go for the Antec. The XFX is overkill and ignore that noob above, just because something is on one PCB doesn't mean there's not two GPU's.

Thank you, im getting a bit fed up of justifying myself..

I was just trying to help.. :(

go be a toughguy somewhere else

dude, so was i. if he upgrades later (even much later) he will need a new psu. so why not just get it now. its the same price for gods sake.

amen!

I give up.

@ OP, i was in your situation and went with a 750w, it lasted me for years and like oldphart said, means you dont ever have to worry about drawing too much juice, even if you do go sli in the future. its a well made unit and is fully worth its price.

Cough, all important Warrenty is worth bearing in mind as well see below -

Antec Quality 3 year warranty and lifetime global 24/7 support
5 Year Limited Warranty

We never said it wouldn't last for years, however the Antec would also last for years as it's a good OEM and both units give enough breathing space. I think I run 2x SLI 460's on a 650 PSU could be a 750W. I keep meaning to buy a meter to see how much I draw at the wall.

yeah and as they are the same price, why not get the xfx? for a few % less efficiency?

id take the upgrade path over that (plus 2 more years warranty as posted)

Because he wont need the extra power as he stated he can't afford crossfire/SLI, so it's better for him to buy something he can take advantage over than buy something he can't.

not yet he cant. but as we have said, in two years maybe he can.

nice to have the option. rather than 50p per year saving on his electricity bill (if that), it may be a £70 saving on a new psu if he wanted to upgrade.

This is getting incredibly confusing now! :P is the XFX not fully modular? I want something I can make VERY tidy :)

I'm not too fussy about efficiency, as long as it power my components properly and safely and I can keep it tidy in the case :)

The XFX is "semi modular"

Fixed:
1 x 20+4pin Main Connector
2 x 6+2pin PCI-E
1 x 4+4pin ATX12V / EPS12V

Modular:
2 x 6+2pin PCI-E
1 x 8pin EPS 12V
1 x FDD
Up to 5 x Peripheral
Up to 8 x SATA

It shouldn't really make a difference unless you only intend to use one of the PCI-E cables, and anyway you can always stuff it out of sight. (If you care about aesthetics though the modular cables that come with XFX look pretty "bargain basement", I was quite disappointed with them when I got mine as they look no better than you would expect with a cheapo PSU, the "pretty" ones Corsair supply look better IMO and they also have aftermarket replacement options).

There is no chance that you won't be using the Fixed cables anyway (in a gaming system) .. So i'd say it's still the best option, even if it isn't fully modular..

You ill be able to make it tidy, the cable i struggle with are the SATA and Peripheral ones. :(

Hmm, I'd probably go for red cables anyway, are they available? :O

Also, Doomedspeed, I know what you mean, SATA cables do not fold away nicely, they're too rigid :( and the plastic part of the plug sticks out too far :c

XFX for £7 more, its a no brainer, peace of mind + for future upgrading.

That would not get you a pint in some place's, very few 2. So it's either get smashed or peace of mind.

He might not be able to afford it, but any upgrade's including a full upgrade say to Hasswell and not have to get another PSU
