Psu keeps blowing

Just returned from the shop that did the work for me....... Am too annoyed to post much at the mo, but they trying to blame the gtx670 as being possibly faulty and that is what blew their 'high spec' psu. They said they ordered a psu that was easily cable of the card, and had i thought about going to a 850w or 1000w instead! How could the card be at fault if the PC booted fine, browsed ok but blew when I ran a game? To me that sounds like the load from the game made the psu blow as it couldn't cope. They now made me paranoid.....could it be my card/mobo? Will I be throwing cash away if I get another psu myself?

That's hilarious, I'm running an overclocked 3570k, 4 hard drives, tons of fans, and two GTX660s off a 760W PSU and it pulls so little power that the PSU doesn't even have to turn it's fan on! If I remember rightly my PSU needs it's fan once you go over 70% load, so that means even with all that I'm pulling less than 550w.

I'd push them harder, they have put a crap PSU in that simply isn't fit for purpose and you should be getting your money back.

+1 I would not roll over that easily. Pay the difference in the shop value to your new one (i.e. claim the other chunk back) a lesson that both parties can learn from.

I just had a quick Google ...similar PSU to the one they fitted is around £16 ...... seriously bad.

A PSU costs a minimum of £10 per 100W to make ... if it's significantly cheaper than this it's utter trash and will not support the quoted figures.

An I5 2500K and GTX680 OC pull less than 300W from the wall socket. A decent 400W + PSU from overclockers will be fine, 500W ideal.

well my new corsair psu is fitted and all seems to be ok so far........ am about to run a game so am crossing my fingers! i had full refund from the store and they installed the new psu for free, ran benchmark software on my graphics card and all seems ok! wish me luck as i launch a game!!!

yayyyyy am still here!!! entire rig did not blow taking the wall with it! all seemed fine when i ran my star citizen hanger and saints row 4!, tbh they seemed to run faster and start quicker too! tower seems quieter with the new psu as well. previously i could not oc my msi gtx670 over 1080, i wonder if that was all the fault of the old psu and with this one i could go higher? or is that tempting fate lol. thanx to everyone here for the advice, it kept my hopes up. i promise i will never buy a cheap psu via a repair shop again!

Glad your all OK and backup and running now :) will teach you a lesson for the future that you can share with other now.

To be honest you have a massively over powered PSU now that is complete and utter overkill for a 2500K (massive overclock) and a single GTX 670 (again with massive overclock) as you have lots of power now on tap just keep an eye on them old temp as your case is a bit tight on the air flow front for my liking.

Happy gaming and overclocking :)

I would seem not Wazza :(

750w isn't that high imo,it won't have to work as hard as a lower wattage one would and should run quieter
