PSU needed to run 2x5970's and overheating problems ?

The thing is, people keep saying a 24" 1920x1200 is wasted on 5870 crossfire not to mention 5970 quadfire. But just look at the benches H*xus did at 1920x1200 on a stock i7 975 with the 5xxx series. Clearly large gains going from 1 5870/5970 to 2 of them. And while 1 card may be plenty at 1920, having 2 clearly means you can max out on AA, AF and a few other settings and have better minimum framerates.

;)

No, it's 2x5870's with downclocked voltage, memory and core to meet the 300tdp atx standard. It just so happens it's downclocked to around 5850 levels but the no. of shaders is the same as the 5870 and it has a vapor chamber to aid in overclocking to 5870 levels which ATI said should be possible once you up the voltage.

I don't think many people have managed it despite what ATI says about the card having lots of headroom. Anandtech and at least 1 other website who reviewed the card found the VRM's on it got very hot when approaching 5870's speeds and the cards speed throttled back. 2x5870's is definitely a better bet in my opinion.

Yes i was thinking that also. Find 5970 a let down due to its clock speeds. Saying that im sure we will see custom cooled 5970's with factory overclocks to help it on its way.
