PSU providing to low voltage 12V Rail Help!

Hi,

I have a SFF psu that i hope to use in a sky + pc mod but the 12V rail is only provviding 11.2V under load and 11.5V Under no load. The 5V rail seems to be fine. Is it still OK to use the PSU? Would it cause any damage? Does anyone know of a component inside the PSU causing the problem?

You measured this using a multimeter? Or just off some application?

Actually having a look at the ATX spec it is outside of tolerance, use at own risk I would be inclined to say. What's the spec of the PC and the rating of the PSU?

200W 10A on 12V rail.

It will power something like a Athlon XP 2800+ with 1 GB DDr1 and a HDD.

Just use it. If it fails, replace it.

Most PSU's have all sorts of protection to prevent this. Even this cheaper ones, contrary to popular belief. It's not all that common for a PSU to take out other components.

Of course, this isn't an excuse to get a cheapo PSU.
