I'm new here, but not the OC website.

I am doing a big upgrade sometime in the near future and I wondered if my current PSU would run this new hardware until I buy another one.

Here is the hardware I have decided to get

I have already got the Ram.
If anyone one has got any better hardware suggestions that would be better for playing games than the hardware I have picked that would be great. The games I would be playing are from WoW and UT2004 to Cod4, Crysis and future high demanding games. I am not spending over £320 INCLUDING a PSU.

My current PSU is a iCute ATX-400W/P4 and i'm afraid thats all I know about it, I have had it for about 5 years so I understand that some Watts may/will have drained from it.

I have a good understanding of computers so dont be afraid of me not knowing the questions you ask me.

If it was myself, i would purchase a new PSU, purely for the fact its as old as it is (although, what sort of usage has it had?).

Are you running 32bit/64bit os? XP or Vista?
 
I would get a new PSU which is branded and has good reviews, the iCute is probably generic, and could not only possibly not provide enough power, but it might blow up or something.
 
Yeah a new one would not hurt, but I think buying high rated PSUs is overrated on here and makes less difference than people think. I know many builds that had what can only be described as underpowered PSUs and they ran fine even overclocked.
 
I was thinking more on the lines of that the PSU manufacturer may have over-rated the PSU wattage, and it may not have enough amps.

Sorry to say but I wouldn't trust a hiper in my system. The overall power rating is good but the proportion of it available at 12V is low therefore they do not live up to the ratings stamped on the box. Hence the 'bargain' price.

Any of these would be fine with the proposed system... and even allow a little upgrade or two

The Gigabyte one seems a little cheap but I know they make other good products but I dont know what their like for Power supplies.

If you feel the need for 500W + then consider higher rated versions of the PSU's above.

UK RMA center = cheap post so I would buy this over the Corsair ... Gives about 480W @ 12V so a good solid unit for SLI /Crossfire

look for one in budget, choose modular cables or not ... should be looking to pay £60 + for a fair 500w ... the two about are £65-70 ... others are more expensive

Edit ...

Don't just look at the headline figures ... check the manufactures website.

The key figure is the output at +12V since most of the power used by a modern PC is +12v...... for old PC's only motors were driven by the +12V so the split of output was 50:50 between 3.3v/5v and 12V.... a modern PSU should give 90+% of rated capacity at 12V but many don't..... buyer beware.

500W is already overshooting enough, components won't even reach 200W peak draw.

Looks like that iCute might be even 200W PSU by modern rating... assuming those aren't peak ratings.

You're right on the power draw... Q6600 @ 3.2 + 8800 GTS SLI = 300W
and my low power server... as was... E1200 @ 3.2Ghz + 2900XT = 250W

Both running on Antec Earthwatts 380's at present though the Q6600 will be back on the HX620 once it comes back from RMA

Antec 324W @12V

Akasa 300W @ 12V

Gigabyte 350W @ 12V

The Gigabyte is the most powerful but Antec's core business is power supplies.

Of the three I'd have the Antec but I still like:
