PSU Tier List, Gospel or not?

Are you really that naive? People come on here for advice and guidance and often spend their hard earned money based on peoples recommendations so when you go saying that you have had no problems with a certain budget brand they could take that as a recommendation. We genuinely have people come on here who know next to nothing about pc's but want to learn and they see the nonsense you are spouting, even quoting the make believe garbage that the manufacturers claim as per post #12 and see a psu that is falsely labelled as a 650w unit for less than £22 then see a quality one that we have suggested costing near £100 and they think, "well they are both 650w so I will go with the cheaper one) only for it to fail and kill their pc. They are then several hundred, maybe even over a thousand pounds out of pocket all because someone gave a rubbish opinion. I believe we had a run in on cheap psu's a couple of years ago and it's sad to see you haven't learnt anything since then.

As for reporting JollyJamma, he had every right to call you out on poor advice/opinions for exactly the reasons I have stated above so hopefully that complaint won't go anywhere.
You completly ignored my comment / experiance on Phanteks and Corsair that I made and have focused on the cheap PSU I used in lower end PSU's comment I made to justify your attack.

I guess its no "beacon of power proficiency, lighting the way to an unstoppable computing experience" for you then! :)

Enough of the back and forth arguing now. @Scooby-DoobyDoo, they’re not “attacking” you, they’re posting opinions about advice you’ve given. If the advice you’ve given can’t stand up to scrutiny then that isn’t a moderating issue, and to say that the mod team (of which 99% of us will have no idea about what the best PSUs are) should be regulating that is incorrect.

That said, let’s all move on now please.

I’ve had problems with a phantech (used like new) that took out some memory, although my main pc has a phantech and has been ok.

Had an XFX that kept looping on boot. Ocuk sorted via RMA.

Been ok with Corsair and a cheap 400w gigabyte,

I have built a few pcs with cheap Vida new psus and they have been fine, but I normally go for 650w in systems that draw about 300w.

Hey so I'm pretty late chiming in here, just wanted to talk about the VIDA PSUs you mentioned.

I too bought a couple for cheap builds, but in the end didn't use them - the 650w white model only has 30 amps on the 12v line! That's insanely low, especially for a unit with a PCIe 8-pin.

I paired it with a quite a modest setup, RTX 2060 and Ryzen 7 1700. The draw efficiency at the wall during an OCCT power test was abysmal, sub 70% - this is a system that draws just 300w at the absolute most and within 60 seconds of the test it gave off a terrible burning smell. It didn't die or fail, but I dare say the main capacitor was getting pretty crispy in there!

Not sure I'll use them again, no idea who the OEM is, was hoping it would be another CWT model, but I doubt that :D

Firstly thanks for you comments as someone that has used one. I do see that the rail is low. Thats why you have to treat them like a 350w to 400w PSU really. I had one recently and stress tested power draw at wall for a 3800x and a GTX1650 (100w max power) ran furmark / prime and occt to stress test, max I got at the wall was about 280w. I also check the PSU calcs to see what the draw is on the rails. I only really used a couple for cheap low power builds. All my main PC's have Corsair and Phantecs (seasonic).

My post was originally pointing out that all PSU's can give you problems as I had a Phantec take out some Ram and XFX kept rebooting. I did have a corsair once where the PG rating was out of spec when new and sent that back. The cheap Gigabyte 400w I mentioned has been ok, but I remember when I bought I managed to find a Russian review where they stripped it down and tested. (found it here: https://www.f14lab.org/2018/09/review-gigabyte-pw400-400w.html).

The PSU I have bought recentlty is a RM850x 3.1 version, to go with one of the new RTX 5 series when the are released GPUS. This will replace my Phantecs Amp 750w.

ive just looked at that psu tier list as im about to build a pc, been out the game for years.

Just how important is 3.1 over 3.0 and i was looking at the bequiet 650w or 750w pure power m, b tier rated which i guess is fine. going to be dropping a intel b580 in it as i dont exactley game all the time on pc and according to intels site a 600w psu should be fine.
