PSU trouble!

What sort of system are you running, win power are a budget oem type brand and based on the model im guessing its around the 460w mark which it would probably deliver the second it bursts into flames.

If youve got the money id change it, Its not worth risking

With that kind of spec, and what I assume is a PSU that came with your case, I'd upgrade to a better quality PSU asap.

Something around 600 watts would be a sensible option (unless you want to "future proof" yourself a bit and get something that can deliver more power).

The noise might be just a transformer or coil starting to whistle. Of more concern is that it could be another failing or faulty component causing a coil to whistle. Swap that PSU soon.

Currently on my laptop. Ill leave the computer turned off untill the upgrade arrives, which one would you suggest? - I need 2x 4 pins for the gpu, hdd and dvd are sata.

I believe all these will come with 2 x 4pins but its worth checking the actual specs on their respective websites.
Right now OcUK has a lack of Power Supplies so these are the ones i would take a look at.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £69.98
1 x XFX Pro 550W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £59.99
1 x Antec High Current Gamer 400W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £40
Total : £181.97 (includes shipping : £10.00).

I can vouch for the Coolermaster for being silent and having all the right cables for your GPU.

If it helps, I have the 700w version of the Cooler Master Silent Pro.

Very nice, quiet PSU. The flat modular cables are good too.

I run an i5 @ 4.5ghz + GTX460, a 1TB HDD and an SSD on it. It hardly gets warm and is very quiet.

Did you need the 700W for something? I have a similar spec with the 500W :D
